The only thing I can think of what jawwnn is referring to is Vangelis's "Bladerunner: Closing Theme", in which case, its a load of shite (and would also be referring to Let's Pretend We're Married, not SITW which sounds like NOTHING on the Bladerunner soundtrack!). ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Oh my gosh...
First off, cut the additude.
It's a three chord song that basically repeats itself throughout the whole thing if you're not deaf. People called Colonized Mind a "rip off" when Quit It happened to have the same (A, B, C, NOW REPEAT) pattern.....in it's VERSES, then it changes during the chorus. My point is, it's so basic. It's not like we're talking about "Bohemian Rhapsody", a VERY complex song.
The fact that you say "almost the same lyrics" is laughable. You would of made more sense if you were talking about the subject matter in the lyrics which are indeed the same. They both have completely different lyrics aside from the "no responsibility" line. Using two words doesn't make it a ripoff at all.
So, yeah. Win.
My life is too good to be upset over internet users on a fan website.
Thank You and Good Morning!

It's maybe not rip off, but it's indeed based upon. And yes, Quit It is very basic. But the whole feel of the song is very similar. Same chords, similar tempo, similar subject, same melody of the vocal verses... ain't no accident. But it being a rip off is a matter of opinion.

IMO Prince borrows heavily, but he doesnt really 'steal' (apart from the JB-types of songs maybe, but traditional funk is always very recognisable). Most of the time he mixes his influences a bit, and is doing something interesting with it: more like a hommage, then being a copycat.
Someone like Lenny Kravitz is more of a 'thief' IMO: he records a song that is not only composed like a John Lennon or Curtis Mayfield song, he often uses the exact kind of instruments and arrangements that were used back then, and often the results are not bad at all, but they are more like carbon-copies then music inspired by his influences.
For example: a Prince songs like Mountains (the 12 inch version in this case) owes a lot to I want to take you higher from Sly, but in its choice of instruments and arrangement it 'translates' that type of music into the eighties. When you listen to the instrumental coda of Alphabet Street, you can clearly hear 'You can make it if you try' from Sly Stone, but Prince uses modern drum-machines, rap elements and synths to modernize it, while someone like Lenny would rather make a carbon-copy of that song.

Good artists borrow, great artists steal.
Who cares? Both songs are great.

I'm with Spinlight, Of all the numerous examples of link's between previously written songs and Prince songs. I think this is tenuous at best.
Granted the man is an excellent sponge and always has been.

Can you stop saying "simular tempo" when Prince's song is slightly faster.
Why won't you go into detail without assuming the same shit?
It's just the same chords and subject matter and THAT ONE LINE!
That's it. Fuck...

No reason for cursing
So it's JUST the same chords AND the same subject AND that borrowed lycrics.... So basically nothing is similar right?!
You're so funny!

Just played both songs back to back and I honestly don't hear any similarity here, in fact both sound worlds apart to my ears...
they both start with a drum beat that fades...wow... but that surely doesn't really mean much? really.. how many songs must have intros like that...?
on the other hand to me a song on the "1999" record that sounds very obviously influenced by another well known single is "Automatic".. I'm willing to put money that Prince had Gary Numan's "Cars" in mind whe he wrote and recorded it... as the synth sounds on it are very Numan-like and it even has that little stop-start beat that "Cars" has!

no that's not it. I'll go find it.
It's a lot closer to the alternate version (which I assume is an earlier version?)
