Prince never wrote a movie score :(

When i was a kid i was i always thought Prince would be called to make a score for HollyWood movies with large orchestra but he never did.

Prince don't know to read notes but he can have some transcribe his ideas,

even computers can do it.

He made so many great melodies that can be used as orchestral parts,

themes in the movies.

I'm not sure if he can do a full blown classic like pieces

but yet one ordinary rock musician named Danny Elfman had done it so why not Prince?

How come he never done it?

I always thought his ambitions would go in that direction.

And imagine a tour for the movie made music

Prince conductiong a large orcestra

p.s. don't name Girls 6 songs because that doesn't count,we are talking about real music scores made for movies.

Claire Fisher&Prince under the cherry moon.

Movie score for Under the Cherry Moon was done by Claire but no Prince

Prince is only involved when some melody he composed,

Claire had a

freedom to compose his own orchestrations.

But yes i do agree when they play Under the Cherry Moon Theme and

an Honest Man theme, but no music score in Batman made by Prince.

Prince only contributed songs, that beautiful and haunting score was done by Danny Elfman actually.

I don't think Prince has it in him. You've heard Kamasutra, right?

And Danny Elfman has long since moved beyond being an "ordinary rock musician".

I heard Kamasutra and i think that isn't the best Prince could do in that genre,i think he never really tried.

Yet he is a good aranger

he can take some of his old melodies and make it sounding more like the movie score.

Under the Cherry Moon is a good theme

Venus De Milo

1999-also

he could combine orchestra and piano themes

and i think he can pul it if he wants to,but i don't know in which degree he can be great in it,maybe if working with some classical musicians.

BTW Prince CAN READ music! It's a perpetuated myth that he can't. Not only can he read music, he can hear notes.

In some interview, Wendy & Lisa (who do TV scores, like for Heroes) talked about how the director is the big boss and he tells you what's happening and what kind of music he needs and you have to match the music to the overall vision. Maybe Prince doesn't want to work in that kind of situation.

Btw, I read that Danny Elfman played violin as a kid.

Prince can read music, but chooses not to. Reading music is overrated.

I was pretty amazed to see that Prince didn´t write the score music for Purple Rain. I mean, that music was nice but it could´ve been done by Prince himself. I like the score for Purple Rain.

what does reading music have to do with it one way or the other? You don't need to read notes to write music. Prince has the finished songs in his head and dumps them to tape track by track. I'm pretty certain he can read music, but have no idea why it's releavant one way or the other to writing a movie score.

You're totally right. he DOES read music. I saw him reading not lyrics but a proper music sheet once in Paris during rehearsals back in 1993 in Bercy (yes I was invited by my mate who used to work there! eek)

Trent Reznor has done two to date - The Social Network and the soon to be released The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. He won an Oscar for the former.

Prince could certainly do it if he were that way inclined. Maybe the idea just doesn't interest him that much.

I'm sure that Prince could write a movie score if he wanted to,but I don't think his ego would allow it lol It would be incidental background music. He would want his music to take center stage.

It's interesting but I thought reading from the list of Academy Award winners from 1984 that Prince did win for at least co-writing the score for the film but was it really just for Michel Colombier?

I'm guessing what thebanishedone was really saying is Prince never wrote a score on his own. And if he's saying that, then I can see what he means. Like someone said he did write the score for Batman but the film producers decide to go for the score that was written by someone else anyway.

I think you mean the Grammys because I'm sure Prince won for the score. He sure didn't win one for Best Original Song lol

The Oscar was indeed for Best Score, but it was for Prince's songs, not the incidental music.

It would probably be good for Prince to write a score. In general I think it's better for him to use his musicianship for something other than pop vocal music. Clearly he is capable of writing a good score. Maybe someday it will happen.

Maybe Renato can teach Prince how it's suppose to be done, since Renato has been credited with writing music scores for film. lol
