1985 AMA Purple Rain - I know it's been discussed

Hi, I know this performance has been discussed here before - that's how I found out about it in the first place. But I'm new to this place and just had to share my enthusiasm.

I was absolutely SPEECHLESS! OMFG.

It was like good sex.

There was the slow sensual build-up, focused and intent. Then the tension and excitement escalates at just the right pace... escalates & escalates until you just can't stand it NO MO' - it's so crazy good! (this is about when the microphone gets kicked down, spinning in circles...). And then, AHHH, I need to calm down. And take a cold shower too. And then a nap.

Thanks.

I've just watched it for only the 2nd time now, and I noticed this time at around the 2:20 mark, he plays the guitar so that it kind of sounds like it's crying, "wah wah wah..." Don't know if it's in the record version, but it's a nice touch.

And yes, I'd have a cig afterward if I smoked.

If I had to sum up who Prince is to someone..I would show them this performance. When he kicked the mic stand.......damn.....and the way he played that guitar! No words. Seeing Cindy Lauper's reaction in the front row...the whole place waving their hands....Prince had arrived. Then a couple months later he tore the roof off the Grammy Awards.

Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

The best bit of the solo is about 5:17 (from the video where lionel richie appears at the start), where he turns his head away 3 times as he plays each note (bending up to Ab over the F chord). It looks purely improvised and it is Prince again playing from the heart. Its hard to find a performance from anybody to have an impact like that.
