You missed the point. Prince brought back his synthpop on MPLsound and 20Ten to remind people that he is the grandfather contemporary 80s synthpop. Unfortunately most of his new synthpop is unlistenable drek and he didn't promote either album much in the USA, so nobody other than old Prince fans noticed.

If by "didn't promote much in the USA" you actually mean, "didn't release 20Ten in the USA" then yeah, spot on.

Exactly. Ironically he did promote "Laydown" through basketball commercials and a TV show appearance. He just didn't release it, because that would be too, well, normal?

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Hey guys i was wondering, since this album sounds alot like the 80's era songs he made. I think the songs he released where from the vault. I mean the way the sound and drum noise in this album sounds alot like the 80's. what do u guys think ?

These songs are NOT 80's songs from the vault, period. It's not a matter of opinion but a matter of known facts.

But& contrarly to many, I really like the album.

20Ten does not have that "nerve" like Prince's 80s albums.

I still like 20Ten,

about 8/10 imo.

To me none of the songs seem like vault material when you listen to the lyrics and musical arrangements. They all seem to make sense in the continuity of recent work and just his way of playing around with the MPLSound direction.

Exactly! & what I heard they were all recorded quickly like in a few days. This was his most energetic album in years. Only the playfulness of it reminds me of his Controversy 1999 albums.

Still 20ten times better than lady gag or justin bieber!!! or anything else playing on the radio. I can't stand anything out there right now. The music business is freakin' dead right now. I watched some videos the other day and couldn't stand anything I saw. Just a vast space and I was looking forward to the commercials!!!!

I think the reason for no official release of '20ten', is likely that he tried to strike a deal with a label (or another entity), and it didn't go down, so he just decided to give it away. I also believe that this possible experience is the main reason why he has declared that he's not going to record or release anything until further notice...

He's become discouraged with distribution methods and constructs, and also likely discouraged with his so-called "fans".

I agree with you here. I think he can't strike deals that earn him enough anymore. Also he might be annoyed with his fans constant comPlaints over his new albums.

I do rate 20ten as a good album though, his best since TRC even. I like the 80's influenced sound, my one complaint is that the Linndrum sounds weak compared to his eighties records. Even if he used samples, he could have given them some more effects to make them sound more varied and interesting...

U both r so right. U get the Purple Grammy giggle

On the Linndrum sound. I think Prince cut the whole project so fast, that he just decided 2 leave it like it was. Instead of adding that whole hard drum sound. Plus it could have been added on the 20T3N Deluxe project. Which sadly will never hear.. sad

I think if his fans would have gotten together and protested against it not coming out, like they did The Gold Experience. He may have given it 2 us. But nowadays there so busy trying to find ways to hate on him. To where Prince has given them the finger

I agree..the synths and bass are even better...SLG alone...seems to use original old school bass and classic rhythm guitar.

I think had he leaned off of releasing Mplsond there would have been a tight record on his hands

Drum sounds aside I think it sounds nothing like the 80's. If this was Prince's intention then imo he failed.

If he'd added more echo to the tracks, I bet they'd sound more 1983/84 wink .

And yeah, I agree this album, imo alongside MPLSound are perhaps his weakest of all, weak attempts to invoke the sound of his commercial glory years - Just mostly without the good songs, cool guitar, sense of risk, invention and passion that his great '80s music had.

I do wonder if Prince himself has realised that some of his recent releases (excluding Lotusflower, imo his best album since Rainbow Children) are below par (by his standards), hence his apparent decision not to release anything new for a while.

Though as we know, with P, he may change his mind tomorrow and wanna bring out something before Christmas lol smile

Lotusflower, the PFunk track and parts of 3121 imo show he still has it in him to make some great stuff though, he probably just needs to release less material less frequently, say every 3 or 4 years, so he has a bigger stockpile of quality stuff when he comes to compiling and releasing his albums.

Co-sign. 20ten was a step back from the organic and brave music that was on much of Lotusflow3r (MPLSound excluded)
