Prince was so good up to 1984 that we still follow him today...

That's how tight he was. That's how unreal he was. That's how special he was. Let's face it. His best music-making year was 1983. His parabolic curve ended a couple years after that. Yes, there were some OK jams after that, but don't embellish it. After that it wasn't that good. Period. Yes, we want it to be good., but it was at best less than half as good. You want it to be good, but it isn't. Let's get real.

My point. The only way he can appeal to his real fans is to release the old, unreleased stuff now. If he never gives it to us, then his legacy to the real fans diminishes exponentially daily.

To Prince: Quit wasting our time. It's over. The only way to be relevant is to give up the goods now.

People buying and dancing to the new shit now and the shit for the last 20 years is played out a thousand fold.

Let's get real, org people. Why are we still here talking P when the last perfect song was "If I was Your Girlfriend?"

I'll still watch every live performance, and listen to every new release. Because I'm a fan.

But I'm disappointed every time despite the fact that I'm witnessing a living legend due to his otherworldly output that rocked my world closing in on 30 years ago.

Is it worth it?

I've just got two things to say ..

1. You're pretty stuck in the past.

2. I'm sick of this negative bullshit, honestly rolleyes

You've got to remember the beauty of being a Prince fan - none of us have the same taste when it comes to his colourful yet enormous music catalogue. We're all fans from different Prince eras. We're all different ages. We're all fans for completely different reasons. It's impossible for any of us to agree.

I don't know which is worse. The fact that you are stuck in one period when there is a lot of other good stuff outside of it, or the fact that you feel the need to try and wake everyone up to agree with you.

You need to go back and listen. Prince was only warming up then. The 85-88 output was argueably stronger.

Then there was also a fantastic period of productivity and originality in 93-95.

From there on, the peaks have been lower, but if you pan through the rocks you'll find a few nuggets.

But somehow, I don't think you are interested......

All I can say is that I'm listening mostly to his 2000's albums, THEN to his 1990's albums, THEN (a little bit) to his 80's album.

This might have to do with the fact that I got tired of listening to the 80's albums after the 1000th time, but it could also have something to do with the fact that I love what Prince has done these last 15 years as much as I love what he did before that...

Agreed.

Purple Rain is better than 20ten, but I have listened to 20ten a hundreds of times this year, and I probably haven't played Purple Rain all the way through for 20 years.

The new stuff is not as good, but I always find it interesting to see where Prince is taking things.

The bottom line for me is that his weaker modern output is still ten times better than his peers.

You are crazy. No offence. Have you not heard "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Diamonds and Pearls", the whole LotusFlow3r/MPLSound album, along with 20Ten?

It's crazy how your saying his last perfect song came in 87'.

That was put excatly how I think of it. Prince is so diverse that I don't think there is one person that would love the same songs as much, and "hate" the same songs. It's like lotto. You don't guess the same numbers as everyone else. Most people will have a unique number, or atleast somewhat unique.

Different eras are kind of devided in different personalities and styles, while still being as prince as it can be. He can't escape his own persona, cause his honest creative nature is always in his music in some way, no matter how good or bad it is.

This is the only site I come to that is supposed to be for an artist and like most of the people who post here are so hateful. I have said it before and will again just go find someone else who you actually like. Obviously you have all outgrown Prince's music. Move ahead and find something new. This is not 1984. Hell that was way before my time.To love Prince today is to embrace Musicology, 3121, Lotus, Elixir, MPLS, 2010, etc. All great music with expert musicianship involved. Give the man props. Not like oh he's good for a fifty something. He rocks harder than most twenty somethings. Single file now and move on.

If that were to happen, only about 25 people would be left as members in this forum. lol

1984? That's a bit of an early cutoff. I would say 1994..or maybe 1988 if you want to be aggressive with it.

But to cut off SOTT, the Parade Tour, and every great song he wrote after 1984 is kind of absurd.

Prince is still so good I still follow him today. That's not to say I love every song and album, but I enjoy much of his music post-Sign and I've long since gotten sick of reading thread after thread saying the same thing. Let's just create a "Prince hasn't been good since 1987/8" sticky and stop flooding the forums. New 'remasters' and 'everything after 87-88 is terrible' threads pop up almost daily here.

But this view is a bad at the thead opener. You want people to move on if their view differs from your own. There seems to be a fam obsession with bashing all this "hate" when anyone is entitled to their opinion.

There is no rule to say you have to like everything /the latest thing to be a fan. Someone might like only one album and think Prince is a wanker. They should be allowed to think that. There is nothing wrong with it. It's debatable, but its only an opinion.

But the thread opener and this response both end up doing nothing more than attacking someone having an opinion, rather than simply debating that opinion. There lies the hate.

Disliking the current output of an artist is not HATE ...its an opinion. To be a slobbering fan who has no ability to discern is just as bad as someone who dismisses anything "new" out of hand imho. I don't care for his last several albums, but I still think he is an incredible musician, live player and interesting guy who hads had an enormous amount of incredible music. I also don't listen exclusivelty to Prince, so his music - new or old- has not worn out to me.

I will say that DigitalElectric is saying some truthful things I think people are overlooking

I can look over at the Era threads I create and the most and best/favourable responses tend to be the threads from For U - Lovesexy & Batman, they tend to have the most responses

the album eras after that all have smaller volume of input as well as a more 50/50 like-dislike

I don't think DigitalElectric is just talking about an album but the era of the music

DE didn't say there were no go songs, and others have said the same "there are some gems" vs listening to album releases and outtakes that no one would say "there are some gems" too

I was excited 4 Prince whole 3 cd set for LotusFlower Elixer and MPLSound, I was hoping for him to do something more with Bria there was the website I mean I got a bit excited for something that went no where ... I love Lotusflow3r. But the era was blaaaah

Compared to 1999 with the Time Vanity 6 Jill Jones & the noituloveR. Only blind and deaf fans would say one was just as good as the other.

Do I live 20Ten? Yes, I think I like it better than LotusFlower. But a musician that releases music even he won't play? And playing 1 or 2 songs once in a while doesn't count. I don't think he is excited about it either.

the ONA shows were good, the album was good, the shows were good many because a lot of the music was a good mix, probably better than this whole W2A stuff. But Prince is a good entertainer over all so it overshadows weither or not that particual album was good.

You answered your own redundant question. "Because you're a fan." Accept it and either stay put or move on. Why does Prince have to adjust something in his life for you to find solace in yours?

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Up to???

When you can perform live and nail amazing guitar solos, he will be sitting on a stool at 78 years old rocking it out.

But if you want to do a "up to..."

I would say Up to Lopez Tonight! Thats when he is over, this tour and performance on Lopez Tonight. NOW he is over and you can say "Up to"

He needs to change that! Or he is just milking his past!

I disagree. Prince still had great moments even in recent years. Not all legends are gonna have a period like their heyday.
