The only logical reason for Prince to act like he's acting is to protect his rights regarding the back catalog in preparation for eventual remasters. But I haven't seen any evidence that Prince actually intends to release remastered versions of anything from his back catalog, except as niche market vinyl reissues. In fact, he himself has said the opposite in his rantings about digital music. He seems to think that his revenue in the future will come exclusively from live shows. If he has no intention of ever releasing digital remasters of albums by The Time, The Family, etc., or his own albums with the Revolution, why does he care what The Time do under their name? The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Prince obviously cares a lot about all of his music. Whether the tracks are just sitting in a vault or whatever. He rarely allows his music on TV or film, and we know about Youtube. I don't think it's about immediate revenue, he has long been obsessed with his masters, I highly doubt that has changed. It's about control over what he thinks is his.

As you see bolded above, I said "it's part of the play".
It seems to be a part of a BS game all parties are playing. To me this harks back in much the same way of that horrid idiotic post by the manager of FDeluxe. It has always been disingenuous. The manager for FDeluxe org-noted me admitting the blatantly obvious; that the message he posted was not intended for the fans here, like Alan Leeds disingenuously claimed, but foolishly enough, to simply get Prince's attention. Because he said he was aware "his people" visit the site.
True, The Time have never stooped so low, but it's part of the same game and tactic.
A lot of this is just a like family argument about money gone public in a very sad and pathetic passive aggressive manner.

You guys are NOT getting my point.
If they can not get a record deal, then self-release. But you guys are talking about how much it would cost to manufacture the physical disc and how many will be sold.
Forget about that. It's 2011. They aren't going to sell a substantial amount, especially if they change their name. The majority of us, even though we say we'd buy it, will probably download it for free the day it's released and say "Well, if I like it I'll buy it." Bullshit. Some people will, but the majority of people that already downloaded a free copy won't buy it. We're just too lazy and stingy in general.
So, screw the idea of manufacturing discs. Put that shit on iTunes, expect everyone to just get it for free and then get PAID from doing tours. Hell, they already tour like the Grateful Dead.
Realize it's 2011 and everyone gets music for free. Stolen or otherwise. (Everyone meaning a growing percentage of music listeners. The ones that do actually buy it probably won't add up to enough money to buy groceries for a week.) Focus on the live show, which the Time already does, but incorporate the new music. Grow as a band by recording new music and get money from live shows and merchandise like tee shirts.
In the past bands used to tour to support an record. It's different now. Release a record to support the tour. The tour is where you'll make the money this decade. [Edited 8/20/11 13:33pm] [Edited 8/20/11 13:35pm]

Oh, bullshit.
They recorded an album back in 1997 (or 1999?) too and one of the "lesser" members in the group said that that one wasn't coming out because Jimmy & Terry produced it and they were sitting on the tapes and they were too busy with other work to get around to it.
Prince may or may not be one of the roadblocks to a new album being released under the name "The Time," but he's certainly not the only reason why a new Time album hasn't come out in the last 20+ years. In fact, he even wrote a few songs for the late 90's one that didn't come out.

I agree with much of what you're saying. At this point, the guys should stop delaying and just release it on iTunes.Change their name (if they have to),get it out there and do a kickass tour! It's 2011 and the game has changed.Waiting around for a record deal and/or for Prince to come his senses is just a waste of time.

Yeah I'm a bit tired of it myself. Just release the damn album and keep it moving lol Lemme find out they're still stuck in 1984. Come on. lol

And don't forget tunes that Jellybean, Monte, and Jam/Lewis have written/produced in their careers.

It's funny people bash Prince for playing his hits so much but the 'Morris Day & The Time' shows are almost identical to each other. I've seen 'Morris Day & The Time' 3 times and the setlist was the same every time. The only variation was the ad libs with the audience. A good show but they need to change it up more often. When ![]() ![]() ![]()
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
But the difference is Prince has so much more material to choose from to play, so that's where people's frustrations come from.
And Morris Day & The Time's setlist have basically been the same for a bit, but we're now talking about the Original Time Band, and their setlist would be more varied, with setlists pulled from The Time, Morris Days's solo albums, Jesse Johnson's solo albums, and Jellybean's/Monte's/Jam & Lewis's compositions. And considering how this particular lineup hasn't toured every damn year like Prince has, it's pointless to even compare, really.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Absolutely. Prince has 30+ albums to draw on while the Time only have 4. It is not in any way comparable.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
For real. That no real excuse really. That's all they had (and technically they were Prince creations anyway). Prince on the other hand...
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
There U go again creating false things about Prince. He has not toured every damn year. U kill me with these comments. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Wait. Prince took a break once?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Oh really?? Give me all the years in the past 20 that he hasn't played any gigs.
I'm waiting... | |
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Exactly. And if he did, it was barely a blip on the radar screen. If he wasn't touring arenas somewhere around the world, he was playing festivals or full-length concerts at his parties or he played at small theaters/venues, or he toured "behind" Tamar or whatever. Dude's been playing a lot of the same exact shit for many years straight now.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Yeah I've never known Mr. Nelson to take a break since he was a teenager.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Some years he doesn't play many gigs.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
That don't mean he didn't play any though. He still played SOME lmao
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
And Kcool says WE come up with crazy figures. Now, I bet if I said Prince was lazy and has hardly done anything in the past few years, he would've said, "Are you kidding?!! The hate around here is stifling! He's been touring everywhere for every year of his career and will continue to!!!"
You just can't win with these Prince apologists/fams.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Say one thing, they get mad, say another, they get really defensive, yeah I know!
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Thank you. And even THOSE years are very few and far between.
802, name the years where he hasn't played "many gigs", and what's your definition of "many"?

I never said he didn't | |

Of course Prince has done a concert every year. What world are you living on?
