This was my first Prince concert. I actually went to an agency to make sure I got in... paid $80 for the pair. It was only 70/80 minutes, but I was never the same after this.

I believe it was one of the few shows (maybe the only one?) that the Time didn't do their set. About a week later, all three played the Long Beach Arena.

Man, you already know!! When it comes to Prince music, you and I are in the same EXACT boat damn near 100% of the time!! That's why you're my brotha from another motha!

But, it was freakin' crazy how Prince was doing The Time back in those days. I heard a story from some Jesse Johnson interview (I believe it was on Donnie Simpson's show) about while they were in New York, at the least minute, he would call Morris and 'em at the hotel to tell them to just hang back for the night because the crowd wouldn't really be feeling their music (because it wasn't "their" type of crowd) and that they really only came to see him. So, I guess he was acting like he was doing them a favor so they wouldn't get booed or some shit. That's so fucked up, and the boys were feeling so hurt over not being able to play and show these gatekeepers what they were all about. He was gonna make sure the buzz leaving the show was ALL about him. After all, in places like New York and LA, they had the most influential music press (gatekeepers) and "hot" celebrities attending those shows, so that was his chance to hog the spotlight AND make sure there wasn't any chance of being upstaged or having to share the limelight.

And, what was so good about The Time's show was that they were all FUNK with tightly choreographed moves, and the show had only one theme. They were some cool, funky ass pimps. And I think that resonated with the audiences a little easier than Prince (& The Almost Revolution) did with this shows. I hope that makes sense to you, as I tried my best to explain it correctly.

And Prince took his Time rivalry and made that a centerpiece of his film lol

The Walk" opens side two of The Time's second album, What Time Is It?. Recorded for the album at Sunset Sound in January 1982, the song was produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince with Morris Day later adding his lead vocals and Vanity 6 providing some backing vocals.

The funk song opens with a brief drum fill and has several throughout the song, along with drum machines. The beat is somewhat of a march, which is emphasized by Day during the song's break by mimicking an army chant. The "walking" bass of the song is perhaps inspired by the song's title. The keyboards take an important roll, as well as plenty of rock guitar. Despite the song being performed nearly entirely by Prince, several band members are called out throughout the song (Jellybean Johnson and Terry Lewis) giving the song a live feel. The ending of the song is a humorous conversation between Morris Day and one of the Vanity 6 members. Prince himself also makes an appearance as an Italian club owner.

the music for the video is a bit different from the lb version 2 I think

love that song and LUV her voice, she has that sexy baby doll thing down and moved almost like Prince but as a woman

Vanity 6 had it, I wished we could have seen them 2gether for a few more album maybe into Parade

On 15th March 1983, Prince returns in triumph to Minneapolis for a concert at 13,500-seat Met Center in Bloomington. A post-show bash was held at the Registry Hotel in Bloomington. At 2:00 am, some members of [Prince]'s band, Vanity 6 and THE TIME played a short jam session with Prince on the drums and Sue Ann Carwell singing.

On 16th May 1983 [Prince] appears at the 3rd annual Minnesota Music Awards at the Charlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington and was finally honored with six awards. He thanked Minneapolis for its support and ended the night with a 10-minute jam of "D.M.S.R." on borrowed equipment with a mix of members of his own band, [Morris Day], [Jesse Johnson] and Vanity 6. Later this night they performed a jam session at First Avenue in Minneapolis with [Jesse Johnson] on drums and Sue Ann Carwell singing the lead vocals.

Yes, that is correct. Over the past several years I have done a lot of research on that tour within numerous newspaper archives and found no mention of Triple Threat tour. But very often saw "1999 Tour" listed with the ads for the shows in the various towns.

FYI: much of the reasearch results can be found at the google site: Prince Tour History
