Did it with Emancipation. Did it with TGE/Come/Chaos. Did it with Sign o the Times/Crystal Ball. Did it with Parade.

And had there been any good outtakes to do it with, I'da done it with D&P and Symbol. In regards to his newer shit? No, sorry. Never. Never, ever. What's the point? I can't even say I like an entire album enough to bother.

I love Lotus Flower, but I think that album is perfect by itself (once you destroy the other 2 discs).

With Emancipation, just trimming it down to a single disc of my favorite 15-18 songs. I can't stand songs like "Human Body" or "Curious Child" or "Dreamin Bout U" or "Sex in the Summer" etc. To me, those songs are too gimmicky.

Putting all the CB tracks he dropped off SOTT is a good idea. The album is much more colorful and strange (though it is quite long and kinda drags on a bit given so many songs are 7+ mins).

Ooh, I think that was me! razz

I do this all the time now. Though not just replacing songs I don't like, but creating 'special editions'

Here's My Diamond & Pearls

1. Thunder - 6.10 (Cool version I made by incorporating parts of the Thunder Ballet)

2. Daddy Pop - 5.10 (Tony M-less edit)

3. Diamonds & Pearls - 4.45

4. Cream - 4.13

5. Get Some Solo Interlude - 1.30

6. Strollin' - 3.46

7. Willing & Able - 4.30 (Livestudio version and Tony M-less)

8. Gett Off - 8:29 (12" version)

9. Walk Don't Walk - 3.06

10. Horny Pony - 4.20

11. Money Don't Matter 2 Night - 4.47

12. Push - 4.50 (Tony M-less)

13. Violet The Organ Grinder - 4.56 (removed the scream intro)

14. Insatiable - 6.58 (incorporating bits from the full length unreleased version)

15. Live 4 Love - 6.21 (Tony M-Less)

I love the album this way, in fact it's now probably one of my favourites. I've done the same for LotusFlower & Graffitti Bridge & love those too.

blah blah blah

I replace the edit of Let's Go Crazy with the extended version..that is essential.

Also I replace the album version of Come with a better one and change up that album a lot with some of the test pressing versions...add Endorphinmachine back in, etc.

I've recently started doing this! The change is apparent, and I enjoy it much better. "Laydown" is now the first track, and it is much a better opener. Everything else on 20Ten stays the same, except "Everybody Loves Me" It just kills the album all together for me, yet still it has its place in the Playlist "Y Did Prince Make This?" Haha...Nevertheless it is an incredible idea to do that. It works and changes the feel of the whole album if its done right. I think I might need to try what you have done with "Emancipation" because I don't like 12 songs either...and by eliminating them it would be a perfect album! Haha

I don't quite get why people like to add the long versions of
"mountains", "america" or "i would die 4 u" to their albums.

Don't they intrude too heavily on the "album" experience? Any
song that goes on beyond 10 minutes takes away from cohesive
structure or flow imo.

Having said that, all the 83-88 extended versions are superb so
I can see why people would want them on the albums.

I never really replace songs I don't like, but I do edit his post 80 CD's to standard lp length (10 songs around 50 minutes). Then you get something like this:

  3. The Question Of U (4:00)

  6. Joy In Repetition (4:53)
  7. Tick, Tick, Bang (3:30)
  8. Thieves In The Temple (3:20)
  9. Still Would Stand All Time (5:23)
  10. Graffiti Bridge (3:51)

Diamonds and Pearls without the tracks featuring Tony M's raps (except W&A and L4L).

  6. Gett Off (4:31)
  7. Walk Don't Walk (3:07)
  8. Money Don't Matter 2 Night (4:46)

  4. The Morning Papers (3:57)
  5. The Continental (5:30)
  6. Damn U (4:24)
  7. 7 (5:12)
  8. And God Created Woman (3:18)

That's a good idea with Rave and NPS. Could probably improve both by just combining them. NPS tracks also work on Emancipation, imo.

Albums I never touch are his 80's albums, Come, TBA, C&D, the Vault, The Truth (tho I do like to kill man in a uniform and animal kingdom) and One Nite Alone. Not that they are perfect, but they are fine by themselves ( about 10 songs each, lp length or short lp)

Oh by the way,

TRC without the R&B and bs

  1. Rainbow Children (10:04)
  2. Digital Garden (4:07)
  3. The Work Pt. 1 (4:28)
  4. Everywhere (2:55)
  5. The Sensual Everafter (2:58)
  6. 1+1+1 Is 3 (5:17)
  7. She Loves Me 4 Me (2:50)
  8. Family Name (8:17)
  9. The Everlasting Now (8:18)
  10. Last December (7:58)

Lovesexy

Parade

Sign O The Times

Purple Rain

1999

The Gold Experience

Black Album

Around The World In A Day

Dirty Mind

Controversy

Prince

Reason - I love these these essential Prince albums as they are heart

prince I just deleted 1 song: Blue Light

Come I added Lovesign after Dark, before Solo

Emancipation I deleted 6 songs: Courtin Time, Get Yo Groove On, Let's Have A Baby, The Plan, Da Da Da, One Of Us (I love the Joan Osborne song, Prince's version is terrible)

sorry for not playing by the rules in this thread. smile
