New Years Eve Benefit Concert Paisley Park 31st December 1987

Finally saw The Prince Of Paisley Park recently. Near the beginning it shows him perform Sign o' the Times at the '87 Benefit concert however, from the set list of the dvd it's not listed.

Anyone know why?

Not sure exactly why, but the concert on the circulating footage starts from what I think is the latter part of Now's the time with Jack u off/Sheila E solo....I find it strange as it's pro shot so how could someone obtain only a segment of it?

There's also footage from the Paris '81 show which is halfway through the concert with I wanna be your lover/Head, which doesn't feature on the circulating DVD's either

And that's as much as I can say really? confused

I believe the CD had been circulating for a few years and then the DVD showed up. Both have the beginning of the show cut off. I would imagine whoever was able to get their hands on this was only able to get that part of the show, or we would have it all. I personally love this show, especially the long jam at the end. Prince at his best, very playful and at ease in his "new house" at the time. Interesting to see some "previews" to the Lovesexy tour.

The journalist (?) at the beginning states that they have been given access to his private library (vault) or something ...

So, perhaps we've only been allowed to see part of the concert???

Seems like the show is digitally bootlegged off the dubbed bootleg VHS tapes that were circulating (which is how I first saw it). Most likely someone had the concert split onto two 3rd generation VHS tapes? We have only seen tape #2? That's my guess, or the dub that got out was just retarded and started in the middle. The CD seems to come from this bootleg VHS audio track.

Prince was playing the real deal at the last celebration (Xenophobia) on a TV during the day. At least I think it must have been the complete show, I only walked up around the "Beautiful Night" part.

Surprised one of the resident experts hasn't chipped in with some (more) info ...

Like who? Just ask em if you know of someone that knows. Personally I can't think of too many people still on here that actually know much outside of what they've read from fan books and articles published way after the fact! I got a copy of that video back in 2000 on VHS from a collector connected to bootlegs from the late 80's through the 90's who never even participated much in any online prince sites.

I am sure the more knowledgeable orgers peruse the threads daily.

If this one cathces their eye and they have something to contribute, no doubt they will.
