8/3/83 show anniversary

Today is the anniversary of my favorite Prince show. Many of the songs for Purple Rain debuted at that concert. It was before Prince became a mega star and it was also the debut of Wendy who replaced Dez so the vibe is unique.

Give yourself a treat. Listen to it again. Freakin' fantastic show.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Couldn't you have just said the entire gig is online????!!!?????

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

phonk

to me hands down the greatest performance of 'Purple Rain'!!! Yeah he's had arguably better sounding 'Purple Rains' but his unrivaled feeling of emotions powerful to the point of palpable and transmittable (at least in goosebumps that are now still to this day popping up and covering my flesh as the image of his dripping wet sweaty face opens his mouth as he attempts to sing but is overcome to the point of "losing his voice")

LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

'A Case of U' from that night is right up there in my top 2 or 3 live performances by Prince. Stunning little arrangement which he re-used for I Love You, But I Don't Trust You Anymore sixteen years later.
