why didn't Prince just use the NPG name instead of the symbol???

the "NPG" thing was a big deal to him at the time...instead of embarrassing himself by using prince he still could of fullfilled he contract as he did...

Actually he used both. He released music as prince as a 'solo' artist and The New Power Generation also released music (NewPowerSoul, Exodus, the Superhero single, GoldNigga, also remix singles for various songs). Under both names there were videos as well. Around that time too Mayte had a CD out 'Children of the Sun'. Prince was prominently featured on most of it. It was actually kind of cool finding all of the music and a lot of it was pretty good.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I think Prince was also amused seeing people trying to figure out what to call him. The thing about him is he does a lot of things that make you never sure if he's serious or pulling a joke on everyone.

Black Album was intended to get him out of his contract, and Warners gave him a hard time. And they KNEW he was saving new songs for his own label.

My feeling is that Mo and Lenny should've given him the rights to his master tapes instead of the cash payday. It was a trainwreck of a deal that neither one won. It prob. allowed him to buy those clubs and make lavish short films/videos, but that money's been spent long ago. He could've built a satellite Paisley Park production facility in LA, and just built his own area apart from the rest of it. Now he could work out of there and link up to his place in Chanhassen.

I think in the entertainment industry, you still have to have one foot in LA or Nashville. To me, Nashville would've been an interesting location, but it is a huge haven for session musicians of all genres. It's cheaper real estate, it's laid out like Minneapolis, and the weather is pretty fair year round. Down side are the floods.

But when you look at labor of loves an actor puts his own money into, you could either wind up with Travolta's "Battlefield Earth" or Gibson's "Passion of the Christ".

It didn't embarrass him, he thought it was a good idea.

i think some people took the symbol thing way too serious. i pictured prince at times just laughing his ass off behind closed doors watchin people try to figure out what to call him at the time

I wonder, if he knew that 11 years after changing his name back to Prince, many in the mass media would still bring up the name change to make fun of him, would he have still made that choice?

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

I think he still laughs about the fact that it's still such a big issue in his lengthy career.
