the guitar solo was the same solo that clapton played on the record, plus the other half of the solo was from an earlier santana record.

It is not the same solo as on the The Beatles record... lol.

Harrison record? Did you mean the White Album (Beatles)?

Prince was the 2nd guitarist to solo. The first guitar solo (by whom I'm forgetting his name at the moment) was indeed a note for note rendition of the clapton solo. Prince's was improved.

chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

the improved part you are talking about is a carlos santana riff from one of his earlier albums.

If you're referring to a couple of triplet/sixteenth note repetitive "classic rock" type licks there's probably a few in there. But to call the whole solo a santana riff is a bit off.....

Hands down, this is the best. He threw the guitar up in the air and pimped offstage after whipping everyone's asses. Still THE man after all those years. And only Prince could do it.

There was no HD back in '85. If it was recorded on videotape, then it wasn't HD quality. It's not like it was recorded on film and they could convert to HD.

I seemingly remembered this but I was amused he sung "Billy Jack Bitch". evillol He looked good in that red if that was from the AMAs show but I also saw him on VH-1 Honors doing this so maybe I'm mistaking the two?

Yes he did. There's nothing better than sticking out like a sore thumb when you should be blending in. Music is not a competition, but even if you believe it is - it is still a team sport, (unless you're playing by yourself, of course). If that band had been a basketball team they would've gotten their asses kicked because of the showboat ball-hogging.

The only thing that performance did for me was reaffirm that Prince can get a good SOUND out of his guitar live but he can't seem to hire someone to dial him up a good guitar tone in the studio. Maybe he should call me. I'll engineer his ass to a good studio sound...

I'm sure everyone was wondering why a Prince show erupted during what was supposed to be a touching tribute to a dead legend. Classy? No, ass-y.

No, he wasn't wearing red during the AMA performance that year.

I liked that he performed new tracks befoe the release of TGE cd, but I always remember that performance for his comment about the NPG bank roll and the exchange between he and Qunicy Jones. COMEDY!

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

He was wearing black with that gold NPG logo for the performance. I have that AMA show on VHS around here somewhere.

Even at the time it aired, I didn't like this performance, especially after how stellar he was when he played Purple Rain on whatever music awards preceeded this one.

I like the weirder moments, like when he did Dolphin on Letterman, pretending to die, having the bodyguard hall him off stage, while Letterman went over, "is he allright?"

What do you think, Dave? lol

Lip-synced. That factor alone makes it ineligible for "legendary jaw dropping" contention.
