Prince songs that give you good childhood/teenage memories

What are those Prince songs that take you back to your childhood and makes you feel all warm inside reminding you of good times?

Mines are:

I wanna be your lover-reminds me of when they played it at the carnival at my school. Now that I am older, thats kind of disturbing lol

The most beautiful girl in the world: When I was a kid, I loved this song and the video, but.. I thought Prince was a girl when I was real young >_>

Diamond and Pearls: I loved this song when I was little and it is still one of my favorites!!

Erotic City: lol didn't know what this song was about, but hearing it on the radio alot I use to sing along and my mom would give me a look like shut up.

Joy in Repetition: When I watched GB with my bro and sis, I thought the movie was the greatest and I loved that part with joy in repetition, so I use to sing along and mess up the words but I still song it like I was Prince himself lol good memories.

The Beautiful Ones: I loved this song as a teen, it reminded me of hoping someone would feel that way about me... I was a dork, but when you are young and naive thats the way it goes.

Get off: the scream at the beginning, my friends and I would always do that scream just because we thought it was cool.

Violet the organ grinder: my cousin was obsessed with Prince and would tape all his videos and songs... so this was one of her fav. lol she should be ashamed of herself, had us dancing to this song even though we did not know what the heck we were talking about lol.

Betcha by golly wow: I love any version of this song, but this was my fav video to watch of him when I was little.

Oh hell - I have many but they're all now slightly tainted as they all involved one bestfriend who is no longer my friends. Vivid memories include:

She's Always in my hair - scoffing Nestle Clusters after a night out

TMBGITW Mustang/TOTP version - a major unrecipricated crush where I thought I might explode.

Violet the Organ Grinder - recording tapes (remember those) for the car an coming across this in my friends brothers cd collection.

Some fairly sad ones too. Unfortunately most of my fondest memories are from before I was really into Prince.

But - and I've told the story many times, Princes music saved my life

im kinda glad.. yet not.. that i havent been listening to him long enough to have many memories associated with his music.

glad because some music by artists i like a lot (avril lavigne for example) is totally ruined for me.. her first 3 albums basically, because of all the lame memories i have while listening to them

but not because the opposite.. for example, metallica's black album and ozzy's no more tears. they remind me of my daddy causeee.. he listened to them a lot as i was growing up :]

My best memories are associated with other artists an fortunately, being fairly cheesy songs that don't get played much, those memories are freshly bottled in those tunes...

Kylie Minogue - I should be so lucky
ASWAD - dont turn around

But you want to know what triggers/ represents the biggest childhood memories ....Simon Peggs biography pages 219 to 223; that is precisely the experience, comorardary and emotions I experienced it's even the same town

No memories to Prince music are directly related to my up bringing. I enjoy the music because its good and it's my kind of music. I ain't stuck in the past. No offense intended.

I think the question was simply do any Prince songs remind you of any particular time if your childhood...not sure it's a question of being stuck in the past or only liking Prince BECAUSE it reminds you of the past...either it does or it doesn't. Surely only an amnesiac would be unable to answer this question

Prince is the soundtrack to my life.

Back in the Mid to late 80's I would dance around my living room to mostly Prince music.

I remember dreaming of my wedding and dancing with my husband to Alexa DeParis. Turns out it wasn't OUR song, but I did walk down the aisle to it. wink

When Doves Cry always reminds me of Uncle Gil's lake.

I remember singing Kiss to some friends at the lunch table.

Learning SOTT frontwards and backwards when I was punished to my room for 3 weeks.

Many, many. . . MANY others. .

1. Purple Rain-first song I learned all the words too at age 3, used to sit in my mom's bed every morning while she got the other kids ready and sing this song LOUD! biggrin The song was so comforting for me throughout my teen years especially.

2. I Wanna Be Your Lover-a fave of my mom, played all the time at family barbecues!

3. TMBGITW-I STILL remember the day and feeling I got when I first heard it...wow! I was like 11 at the time and it was such a special song for me.

4. When Doves Cry- I used to sit for hours as a kid and try to figure this song out. lol

Its so fun now that even to this day, I'm still creating new memories where Prince is concerned. Plus my nieces/nephews are having new Prince memories made for them!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

well obviously Private Joy reminds me of a 50 girl crew we had in junior high honoring Prince.. lol.. we were the IPF International Prince Freaks.. everyone had names like Darlin Nikki, Ms Creamy thighs, Lady Cab Driver, Irresistable Bitch, Annie Christian.. LOL.. it's funny now.. but to this day those are my girls and we are all AHEM ..A LITTLE OLDER lol.. My name was obiviously Private Joy lol..

Annie Christian reminds me of my mama yelling to me about him singing to the Anti Christ HAHAH eek

BAMBI>. reminds me of being young and shocked at the subject matter..

Party UP reminds me of being too young to smoke weed but smelling it constantly as my baby sitter partied down with friends to the Dirty Mind album..

The long version to IWD4U reminds me of when me and the homegirls ditched school to "meet Prince" at the W hotel here in LA when it was in Westwood.. (purple rain era)>> We did this covert operation, GOT TO MEET BIG CHICK, and then promptly were put on punishment for ditchin once i got home.. I WAS MAD TOO BECAUSE IT WAS THE AMA's Sheila performed with her glow n the dark sticks and my mother tried to ban me from watching Prince..sheeeeiittt i love my mama but dammit we damn near fought.. i was prepared to engage in fisticuffs to get to that television to watch Prince that nite.. She wound up letting me watch it lol..IT WAS MAGICAL.. but i was put on punishment for a month for ditching lol..

Lady Cab Driver and Free remind me of going to the Purple Rain show at the Forum.. leaving the homegirls house dressed like teens and changing into camisoles and lace at Annie Christian's house.... UMM AT 14 lol.. so that we would be properly dressed hahaha for the show.. NOT.. boy to many memories to name.. but us IPF try to get together for Prince stuff and even though some live in various cities .. we did manage to get together to catch some shows this trip at the Forum lol.. the man is just part of my life.. LOL..IN A HEALTHY WAY OF COURSE.. i ain't crazy lol nuts

I strangled Valentino, you been mINE ever since.. If anybody asks.. U BELONG TO PRINCE...

"My Love Is Forever," love everthing about the song. A masterpiece!

This song actually kept the thought of love in my mind, dreaming that one day I would meet her and it would be forever.

I got a few. And I have guts to admit some of this on a message board, but hey...it's a Prince thing, I guess. Kind of like Prince, in the way that I let music tell my mood and talk for me. And you can always tell my mood by what songs I'm playing--especially when I'm playing Prince songs. So let's see what I can come up with here.

The Beautiful One's - I was DJing at a bar every Saturday night for many years (as you can tell by my username.) I could get away with playing just about anything in that place, and they would've made anything a dance song in there. But one Saturday night in particular, I don't know what came over me, but I decided to play this song. Nobody moved. And that made me nervous, because this was normally a raucous place. So I go on doing my thing, and not five minutes later, this girl comes over to where I'm at and asks if she can karaoke this song. I turned it back on and let her karaoke it. She couldn't sing a damn note. She butchered it so bad, but I couldn't help but have a smile on my face watching the girl give it a whirl. And she also got a karaoke chain started--while this was the only Prince song karaoked. Ah man. I don't know why I keep thinking about that one moment, but it always comes to me when I hear this song. I guess it's where I think it's cute she gave it a whirl--and she wasn't too bad looking herself. wink

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World - Back in my semester I took of college (slacker, yeah I know,) I had a college girlfriend. Ah, what the hell? I can admit it. I wound up engaged to the girl, hence why I only took one semester. But anyway...we were sitting in my house one night, and I was going through music, because she wanted me to make her a CD. Well, next thing I know, I'm just singing away at this. And I didn't do too bad, all things considered. She loved it. It damn near made her melt. And now, every time I hear this song, to this day, almost four years later...it takes me back to that one particular night.

Scandalous - Speaking of that college girlfriend. wink. Ya know what? I'll tell the story. We're not together anymore, what do I have to lose? We'd been together for a while, and she finally decided she was ready to...yeah. Well, I had a CD with "smooth" music on it...didn't have a clue what was on there, but I read what was on the front of the CD. So I thought, "yeah, why the hell not?" I put it in, and, of course, the first song on the CD was "Scandalous." So, in a way, the first song me and that good ol' college girlfriend...was "Scandalous." And yes, to this day, that's what that song reminds me of. Probably will forever. That's probably why I find it so special to me now.

Purple Rain - Good old Purple Rain. Back in high school, me and one of my dear friends, who is still a dear friend to this day, decided we wanted to start a band. I've always been a performer. We start the band and we set a show date. Well, show date comes...and me and him are the only two people from the band that show up. We panic. We had to buy some time. So he asked me if I would start our gig out with Purple Rain, even if I had to use backing music from the actual soundtrack. I told him I didn't care -- and I will NEVER forget standing there singing Purple Rain, looking out and seeing cigarette lighters up and a few tears in people's eyes. I don't know if I was temporarily possessed by Prince, or what happened, but I belted that thing. And now, when I hear Purple Rain...it takes me back to that exact moment. Amazing in my eyes, and I'll never forget that what time I live.

Partyman - It's stuck with me since high school. At one point in time, I had a wild side a mile long, folks. And, as a joke one night, one of my partying friends, after hearing the song play on the stereo, decided to call me partyman. Damned if it didn't stick. LOL, honest to God, to this day, if I see one of my old partying friends, they will call me partyman. It's amazing the things some songs can do.

I have a MILLION memories behind Prince songs, but I'll leave it at that for now.

I may post more later, depending on my mood.

Prince is a big part of my life. Prince's music is a big part of my life. So I could go on all day, but I'll leave it at this for now. Thanks for the thread to go down memory lane, that was quite fun.

Now to debate on if I wanna do more or not. smile

I recently turned 29, and I was just thinking back to when I was little, and I have to say that Prince was not a major player or part of my childhood memories. But my mother who was a Prince fan was, and the songs she loves the most and played the most during my upbringing, are the ones i tend to look back on and daydream and smile about. I believe that my connection and love for Prince, is closely connected to the fact that, my mom loved him so much, and i love her so much. She loved P more than she would be willingly to admitt lol , she saw him live 12 times between 1981-1984, started a local fanclub/group, and still had plenty of time for me and my sisters, and recently when i dragged her 2 the 21nights run in LA(b4 it ended) after the show she looked a lil hot, like P turned her on again eek lol biggrin

as far as teen years go, i would say the Purple Rain tracks, I remember watching that movie almost every day for a month, when i was about 15 yrs old, i recentley started watching PR constantly again, do not know why though confused

You know what? That was fun earlier, and I'm bored out of my mind, so let me cure some of that boredom by doing some more. That was fun!

Head - I was 12 when I really started getting into Prince. What got me into Prince was my uncle, who has since unfortunately passed away. And I didn't really know what to expect when he gave me a copy of Dirty Mind to play. I don't think he himself had ever played it, otherwise I KNOW he'd have never let a 12 year old have it, but he let me have it, and I played it. And once I heard the song Head, especially at 12, I've never been the same. That's what started my perverted high school years, and that's what has me with my "dirty mind," no pun intended, that I have now. It was totally unintentional, because he was shocked when I told him about the song, but, I guess in that way, it's really the song that got me into Prince. As odd as that may seem.

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold - This is actually a song that means a whole lot to me at this moment. My new girlfriend, well, we've been together for a while, but I still call her my new girlfriend -- I looked at her one day and I just blurted out, and I don't know why, "baby, this is the greatest romance that's ever been sold." I don't know why I said it, and her reaction was perplexed as hell. So I played the song, and she got it. She actually thinks it's cute, as wild as that sounds. So, this song, in a way, is the way I describe my current relationship.

I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore - This is actually a sad memory for me, but it IS a Prince memory. Talking about that college girlfriend earlier, I have to say that I loved that girl. Wouldn't have been engaged to her if I didn't. Well, when we broke up, we broke up over the phone. Which was a stupid way to do it, but that's how us immature young 'uns do. I play Prince for every kind of mood. So I just put my Windows Media Player on shuffle to see what would happen, and, as fate would have it, this was the first song that played. Kind of like a hint. I'll probably always have feelings for that girl--she was my first REAL love--but I don't know if I could ever trust her again. I usually, and I'm not afraid to admit this, but I usually tear up to this very day when I hear this song. (Not ALL of the memories can be good one's, ya know?)

Erotic City - Oh my God, the first time I heard Erotic City! I had JUST purchased The Hits/The B-Sides, and there were a lot of the B-Sides I hadn't heard, so I decided to play that disc first. And oh my God, the first time I heard Erotic City! I was so impressed with that, and I have no idea why. I DO remember going around my house singing it one day, and my mom looking at me like I was insane. And, in all honesty, I STILL don't know if they're saying the word "fuck" or "funk," but when I sing it, I always say "fuck." Makes it sound cooler that way. smile

Dirty Mind - The first time I played this song all the way through, I was with a friend of mine. We were in my car, and we were going somewhere. I don't remember where, but I remember that was the first time I ever really paid attention to that song. And, everybody who personally knows me knows that I have a dirty mind myself--so my friend looked over at me and said, "Oh my God, it's you!" I know that doesn't mean much to anybody else on here, but I find it to be a fond memory. I love that my family and friends stick by my side no matter how big a pervert I am. And it's usually with always hilarious results! smile biggrin

Kiss - Lots of Prince fans don't like this song, but I myself personally like it. I was...here we go with another personal story...I was making out with a girl in the mountains (I DO live in West Virginia) one day. And this song started going through my head, and I started laughing. I admit it. I started laughing. So we temporarily stop, because you can't make out and laugh at the same time unless you're a porn star. The song wasn't playing, except for in my head, but I just find this hilarious. I have twisted sense of humor, I can't help it.

7 - The first time I heard this song, I found myself thinking, "What in the fuck is he going on about?" And, to be honest, to this day, I still sit and think, "What in the fuck is he going on about?" And, my favorite memory about this song is yet to come--when I finally figure out what in the world it's about. I just thought I'd throw it on here for effect and to have a good amount on this list.

I'll probably have more coming soon, because this IS fun.

But until then, take care and stay purple.

Here are my memories as a 70s Baby/80s Kid:

Controversy - This is the first Prince song I can consciously remember hearing. It reminds me of the AM stations that used to play it a lot...and me making lovely sculptures with Play-Doh, lol

Little Red Corvette - The song's lyrical content went way over my 2nd-grader head at the time. The song reminds me of the day my late step-dad walked me to the neighborhood playground for the first time. I think the song was playing on the radio when we returned home.

Diamonds and Pearls - Reminds me of going to the State Fair. Scary carnies and overpriced cotton candy. lol
