Your thoughts on 'The Truth'

I remember when I first heard this album & honestly, I wasn't all that into it [I heard it in '98 when it first came out]. But recently, I've actually been really liking this album a lot. It might one of his most under-rated albums imo. So, What are your thoughts? Throw-away or Hidden Gem?

I love it. It's very much a theme album, which might be why people don't like it (or they don't like the songs, who knows). I like that it's an acoustic album and sensual and organic. It fits a certain mood, and I think it works.

time flies.

I agree! I think I might have been turned off by the "acoustic" aspect at first, but listening to it recently, I've really been into it...

There is alot of intimacy in the album. Very honest and open...dreamy like in some tunes i.e. Dont Play Me, The Truth, Animal Kingdom, Fascination, Circle Of Amour.

Man IN A Uniform and One Of Your TEars really snuck up on me tho in years to come

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Prince in "art" mode is always something special. The Truth is a landmark Prince album.

It's definitely not the first Prince album I reach for and I think it will always be viewed as a minor work but there's some good stuff on there. For me there aren't really any fantastic songs on it but it is fairly consistent. It's always nice to hear him play guitar so the album has that going for it.

I like The Truth much more but I always viewed it and One Nite Alone... as sister albums.

'Your thoughts on The Truth' - My thought: It hasn't aged well = I liked it more at the time of release and the following few years than I do now. See also: TGE, prince, SOTT.

I was excited to hear it and then disappointed when I did. It's ok, but I don't choose to play it very often.

The title track is the only song on there I listen to with any modicum of regularity.

The last album of his that I played non-stop. It was something of a revelation after the somewhat bloated productions of the previous 10 years.

I considered it a fresh start, kind of a year zero. Stripped down and back to basics.

Thought it was gonna bode well for future work. Alas, it was followed by New Power Soul, Rave, TRC, N.E.W.S...

I have no particular interest in Lady Gaga, but how is she any different to say Madonna, Janet, or even Jill Jones, Vanity or Sheila E?

Edit: A bit side-tracky, sorry OP.

My thoughts on the Truth:

Prince wouldn't know it if it bit him on the ass.

Also, the album absolutely sucks. I'd rather listen to NPS and that's not easy to admit in public.
