Sendai 1989 (#SAB 185-186) Holy Cow...!

I see everyone talking about Birthday Soundboard and Small Club, but this thing Sendai 1989 Soundboard is out of this world ridiculous and easily in the same category! The only thing you can say bad about it is that it may sound TOO good; the audience is barely audible and it sounds like it was mixed in the studio.

Also a truly amazing show.

Nagoya and Osaka sound even better imo.

Nagoya is probably the best of the 3, in terms of sound quality.

Yup.

I've had this show a long time. It's great but the vibe is ruined with the lack of audience/atmosphere.

I'll never understand those who say the lack of audience noise marrs the enjoyment of a recording.

It's the band what I want to hear, not the people. Fuck the people.

Call and response fail. That's why.

I'd rather listen to Dortmund Lovesexy than Sendai. Both soundboard but there's a big difference.

Shit, I can live with a little "call and response fail" if it means hearing the music and performer with such clarity!!

I don't think it's ruined but I get what you mean.

I agree. Though some ambient audience noise is good and especially necessary when listening with a multi-channel set-up. More often than not, I find Prince's screaming, tambourine-happy audiences annoying.

when 30% of his performance is more or less a reaction to the audience, then of course it is of some importance, since it's reflecting the total vibe of the concert. If not, the concerts would sound much less logical. Why talking to noone, or laughing because of nothing etc... all his smal reactions are based on the vibe. Studio and live recordings are very different, especially when it comes to artists like Prince who is actually communicating with the crowd.

My question is - Both the audience recordings and these soundboard versions have been out for years - why hasn't anyone made a matrix yet ?

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Yeah, I hate it when he does that bullshit!! Like I always say, I'm here to hear YOU sing, not these drunk, tone deaf fools! If "we" are a part of your choir, then I expect a slice of the gate. If I'm not getting paid for this shit, then YOU should be the ONLY one "performing".

It's one thing to have the audience maybe sing ONE line or sing it with you, but I've heard him do damn near entire verses or even songs. Back during the Controversy tour (2/25/1982 in Monroe, LA), I remember he let the audience since the first two verses of Do Me Baby. But, after that, he basically started the song over again by going back and singing those verses himself, they way they should've been. Now that, I didn't mind. Cuz at least he's still giving us HIS full performance.

Okay, rant over. razz

If I ever catch the bloke with the whistle that was at the '86 Wembley show (where Sting and Ron Wood sat in on "Miss You"), I'll shove that danged whistle right where the sun doesn't shine!

lol nod

I can't listen to any audience recording of the Nude Tour because Prince had given out those fucking tambourines before the shows.
