Best Prince Instrumental?

Prince is such an amazing songwriter, but what about his musicianship?

Which song do you think has the best music. I know its a tough question, I myself love Lady Cab Driver, Play In The Sunshine, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, I Would Die For You, I love how he uses synths in such an atmospheric way! And yet he can make them just so funky! What are some of your faves? biggrin

Hey baby! Don't get me in here actin' silly now! You're not taping this are you... ????

There's so many too chose from it's nearly impossible. But here are some of my favorites in terms of the instrumental performance in the song:

Joy in Repetition

Lady Cab Driver

Condition of the Heart

Colonized Mind

The Sensual Everafter

Xogenous

"Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Colonized mind is awesome! He is such an underrated guitarist, and he shreds it on that song!

Pretty much impossible to choose...

However, I always crank up the instrumental section of "Pink Cashmere"

"If I was you Girlfriend" & "Girl" are two of the most uniquely Prince tracks IMO...

Damn this is hard....

If I was your gf, sounds as fresh today, as it did in 1987, that's just a testament to Prince and his genius biggrin .

It's called Alexa De Paris and it was released as the b-sides of Mountains. It's been rereleased on CD as the b-side of the relatively easy to find Letitgo CD-single in 1994 and it can easily be downloaded online.

I know what an instrumental is, this thread was more about the music without lyrics, just appreciating the music Prince has churned out.

I don't understand you question. Lady Cab Driver, Play in the Sunshine, Little Red Corvette.... etc are not instrumentals

I don't think JB was talkin' about 'instrumental music' but, the music itself. There's so much (including what you posted) of P's music that I love that it's hard to pick it. My top favorite will always be 'Sexy Dancer' the 12inch version with the sexy solos

big grin

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Co-sign. I agree with almost all of these. Some other great music that happens to have words - Lady Cab Driver, I Feel For You, Just As Long As We're Together, Hello (Fresh Dance Mix), Lavaux, practically all of the 12 inch mixes from Controversy through Lovesexy... and so many more
