TNT NBA Promo featuring Prince

Anyone see that? They used Prince's performance of Laydown from Lopez Tonight. It was pretty cool and then Kevin McHale told a story about Prince showing up to University of Minnesota courts and trying into get into pickup games always calling next, but they would ignore him and wouldn't let him play. McHale also said he went to the Atlanta concert in 1980 at the Omni during his rookie season.

Yeah I just saw that.

Prince tried to get next and I'm assuming Andre Cymone (MccHale just said "bass player.")

Yup, saw it. Wrapping up at the station and had TNT on with the postgame.

Heard the beginning strains and chords of Laydown and had to do a double-take.

Very nice promo intertwining NBA playoff footage and the George Lopez show.

Some of the Lopez footage seemed to be from different angles, or cameras that were not aired during the show.

Love to see the promo again ...

Who said he's no longer relevant, that was nice surprise to see. I think McHale would have checked him everytime P got near the hoop.

Prince on the court with McHale would go over like McHale on stage with Prince. They're both Hall of Famers though (for whatever that's worth).

Thank you Mavs for beating the Lakers (formally the Minneapolis lakers) or we might have to suffer "purple and gold 2"

Saw the commercial, was excited but didn't get to hear what song it was. I thought, 'Oh, Basketball promo - did he dust off 'We Gets Up?'

Then i saw that it was Laydown and I was sad. This is one of his worst songs in years, I can't believe he's promoting it at all. Feels so old and outdated.

Terrible song and a huge opportunity lost.

I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

I watch basketball all of the time, but missed the commercial when it aired. I saw a copy someone recorded off of their TV where the sound isn't the best. It's too bad TNT doesn't have the real thing on their web site. I wonder if they will play it again.

I don't get the complaints, the song fits great in the commercial. It's almost like he wrote it specifically for the commercial.

"Here come the purple Yoda" - they show kobe

"To say this name borders on blasphemy" - they show LeBron

"Bounce, bounce" - they show the players bouncing in the huddle

and quite a bit more where the video being shown matches perfectly to lyrics, visuals, sound of the song. I hope they play it a lot in the eastern conference finals (which are the games TNT has left).

It was an aweful commerical. They should have used a different song as that one sucked bad. The video editing was good however but the song choice blows

actually let me correct that...If using Laydown they should have used the cd version and not the live version. The cd version is tolerable but that live version is garbage. the tone in his voice makes me cringe live. Studio version sounds ok

I don't think the CD version is tolerable. Every time it comes on my itunes, I just cringe. A big chunk of it is the background vocals of the woman - I don't know who is singing for him on these things, but seriously, her voice is so outdated and feels soooo 90s that it just kills everything.

The only thing good about the song is Prince calling himself the Purple Yoda, which is a bit of self-effacing humor I'd never have expected biggrin

In a word... AWESOME.

That was perfect editing, matching Prince's moves and even facial expressions to the players.

It's even more of a Prince commercial than an NBA commercial.

This is so cool! I like Laydown; the music moves me. The Lopez version was quite different but I was still feeling it. cool My teenagers (14, 16, 18) said it is the best song on 20ten. My daughter listened to it during her entire basketball season before she hit the court, even made a dance to go with it. lol

"You need to laydown and let me show you how we do this thing up in funky town. From the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound! Come on, now!"

Well thats's your opinion. You act like you know better then NBA Entertainment and TNT. If so, you'd be doing it.

It should be edited to reflect the teams in the play offs. And they know that too.

That commercial is badass. Love the editing.

Back when the Vikings got jinxed with Purple and Gold, lol I remember some of us said that P should have given them Laydown instead. I guess somebody finally figured out it's a good sports song.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
