20ten/Lotusflow3r thought

Does anyone else have issues with how these 3 albums [not counting Bria] were mixed & mastered? If 20ten/Lotusflow3r had the reverb, EQing, & mix/mastering of Prince's 80's albums, would that have improve them [a little]? Imo, that was a "big" problem for me with these albums. Imagine 20ten, Lotusflow3r & MPLSound with the reverb, etc. Prince used to put on his music {I might even feel this way with just about everything he's released since '99}....

Well, his old output is mostly dry..not as much reverb as you think.

When you listen to Controversy, 1999, PR, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT,etc. pretty much all of those albums have a nice dose of reverb & filters on them [mostly all of those songs also have no bottom either]....

They have no bottom because they weren't mastered properly when they were transferred to CD.

On vinyl, they do have bottom. Some of his best stuff is built around a bassline around that time.

Production of Musicology / 3121: plasticly and lifeless

Production of Planet Earth / Lotusfow3r set: good - was pleased as it seemed like he had improved the process, but 20TEN seemed to be back to the plasticy and lifeless sound...wish he would go back to the light / airy sound not this RnB inspired airless sounding production.

Prince's best produced album looking at it in production terms only IMO is Love Symbol.

... reminds me of the Planet Earth album. The bass guitar is very pronounced in the album and I was extremely happy with tha. Good point Spinlight

I feel that some songs really beg to be heard on vinyl. Of his recent tracks, there is some serious bassline in things like "Future Soul Song" or "Beautiful Strange" or "3121"... Not that those are necessarily everyone's taste - they are off the top of my head. The bass on them is powerful, especially "3121" imo...
