And what about Symbol? How would you sequence it as a single album? Having read the very interesting posts by electricberet and the debates they originated, I've tried to imagine Prince's next album, , as a single LP. Here's my proposal:
Side A (19:54)
1. My Name Is Prince 2. Sexy MF 3. Love To The 90's 4. And God Created The Woman
Side B (22:53)
1. Continental 2. The Flow 3. Seven 4. Damn You 5. The Sacrifice Of Victor
Side A maybe a bit short, but I like it.
I agree with those of you who suggest that the new format in the early 90's (CD) contributed to Prince's losing control of his material; all those minutes to fill...! I think Diamonds And Pearls and would have been stronger as single LP's. Particularly : In Diamonds And Pearls there's only one song that really disgusts me (you know which one), while in I find quite a few dispensable. With the "short configuration", is, in my opinion, as brilliant as any of his 80's works.

What's cool is according to the multiverse theory, this configuration exists somewhere

I like it the way it is, sorry. Yes it has a handful of clunkers on there, but I think it's length and self indulgence is part of it's genius. I even like the original version with the (admittedly) confusing segues left in.
However, i'm interested in reading other peoples ideas of a single album out of this, but I just don't have my own.

This would be a challenge, for two reasons: (1) the original running time is just under 75 minutes, about 9 minutes longer than Diamonds and Pearls, and (2) in my opinion, Symbol is a stronger album as a whole, although it did not have any hits as big as "Cream" or the D&P title track. That said, SquirrelMeat has a pretty good proposal, but I might substitute "The Flow" for "My Name Is Prince." I've always thought "My Name Is Prince" was a cheesy album opener (especially since he changed his name shortly afterwards). The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

No grown up should believe in that nonsense.
I'd go with Squirrel's list for the most part, but with a few changes:
Side 1
My Name is Prince The Morning Papers And God Created Woman ... although "3 Chains O' Gold" really should be there. As awful as it is at parts, it's still a track that deserves a place in his discography.

I've soured on a bit since it came out. At the time I was all over it.
Side A: 1. My Name Is Prince 2. Sexy MF 3. Love 2 The 9s 4. The Morning Papers 5. Damn U
Side B: 6. The Continental 7. 7 8. And God Created Woman 9. Sacrifice Of Victor
7 as track 7 was a coincidence!
Singles:
1. Sexy MF / 51 Hours 2. 7 / 3 Chains O' Gold 3. The Continental / Blue Light 4. The Morning Papers / The Max 5. Love 2 The 9s / Eye Wanna Melt With U
