^Why lock it?

Christopher almost has his tongue in Jerome's rosebud throughout the film.

It's a homoerotic piss take in black and white. Don't hate.

I wouldn't classify it as LGBT material, but there's a very gay undercurrent to those two dandies. But that describes most of Prince's career up until 1990.

Would love to see the deleted Christopher/Tricky Love scene. Totally hot!

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Prince does have a few love scenes with the mirror, but that'd be narcissism more than gay or lesbian.

You hear that? That's the sound of ever heterosexual man stampeeding for the door during the bathtub/rubber ducky scene with Prince in the tub and tricky reading the paper beside him.

It's homoerotic as all fuck. There's nothing wrong with that of course. But it's pretty obvious. And it feels quite deliberate on Prince's part.

I don't think Prince was inclined or interested enough in the medium to intentionally pay homage to the gay subtext of many of the type of movies and era he was pastiching with UTCM - but that subtext IS there, intentional or not.

Prince DID twang the moral codes on sexuality intentionally from the beginning. The play between he and Jerome in the movie was intentionally camp and suggestive, but I don't think that makes it a LGBT movie, considering at the time queer cinema was decades ahead of the suggestive farce played out in UTCM. In the end the relationship between the two men in the movie was just another reason on an already heavy pile for why the movie didn't connect with a bigger audience.

The fact that it is so camp is what gives it a lot of it's charm, but I still think it is a load of donkey arse.

I actually quite enjoy the movie and think it's the best of his three movies. the only LGBT element to the movie I guess is that it was practically completely scored by a lesbian couple....

It took a while, but I found one on eBay eventually (about eight years ago, I admit), for about $30 USD. I got that sucker plaque-mounted, and she's byooo-tiful! biggrin

[EDIT: oh, and for the record it's not foil, it's silver ink.]

lol I'm inclined to think that if Prince had any gay or bi tendencies...the only man he'd be interested in making love to is himself.

Thanks. I think I've found one. And the "foil" is the style of the poster as it was referred to on a couple sites. I didn't want the knock off purple posters they have everywhere, rather an original.

thinking ... most of the music / video and movies had this LGBT feel to it BEFORE the Rainbow Children album dropped, one would think

Disagree. Your over looking the possibilities. Prince is bi. And maybe he was trying to tell the world that in this movie. He certainly never did come close to admitting it as in this movie.

The damn movie poster looks like its a LGBT film people. It's printed on foil for X sakes! And the Tricky character...come on now. He is holding the phone like a woman. Hands on his waste....what character is he really trying to potray. Certainly no comedy.

Chris: If two people really loved one another they couldnt be torn apart. For example...do you love me?

Tricky: Girl I've loved you for years!

-------------------------------------------

Tricky: Im sorry, Chris. My mouth started runnin and I couldnt stop it. Let's kiss and make up...smooch, smooch, smooch.

------------------------------------------

And the bathtub scene...I was only 12 in 1986 when I saw it and I immediately dropped my head thinking "How the hell am I going to defend him to the homeys for this one???"

But I gives a damn what anyone says...Cherry Moon is my fav of all Prince projects. nod

Adorecream

A lot could be interpreted as down low homosexuality.

1. Do you love me Tricky

2. The bath tub scene where Tricky is sprinkling petals over Prince in the bath

3. The dandified dressing

4. Prince camping it up when he goes shopping and throwing the money in the car

5. Ditto at Ms Wellingtons house with the champagne bottle

6. Best part "I'm a slap the curls out of you"

7. Most of Christopher and Tricky's interaction

8. Prince's preening

9. Prince's makeup

10. Prince's wardrobe

11. Prince's narcissicism

12. Prince period.

Dosen't mean I don't like it though, the movie is a camp classic like Victor/Victoria or La Cage aux folles. Its got a hilarious plot and if the acting isn't competent its funny at least. Some of the lines are hilarious "Did you rehearse that all night", and "Yo could breathe mo easily if you loosened yo chastity belt" "I make 3000 francs a month" "And yo can't even buy no cologne"

[Edited 4/8/11 4:00am]

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
