4DaFunk's Ultimate The Sacrifice Of Victor: yes, but...

I'm currently downloading the entire 4DaFunk discography and it's so great and then I saw that it contains a TSOV rip from the original laserdisc and I was like wow, too cool...

Then i read that the interviews had been edited out.

Fact is that I want it in its original form, not as a "pure" concert. Prince put the interviews there and I want it the way it was released & I'm quite sure I'm not the only one.

So it just would be so cool if they'd release an unedited version of their Ultimate TSOV (since they still got the original rip in their archives anyway).

PS: Don't take me wrong: 4DaFunk is doing an AMAZING work and I couldn't be more grateful for it.

The real value of TSOV is precisely the live stuff. It would be lame to include the stupid interviews in the audio, that would marr the flow. Prince is an expert at marring things, why should 4DF do the same. Rip it yourself if you want it 'as Prince wanted it'. I highly doubt they'll be doing it. If they wanted to, they would've done it complete the first time around.

And why should they do an Undertaker? Isn't the original audio of the withdrawn cd doing the rounds everywhere? I don't get that.

Ultimate Undertaker?

I know of an Undertaker Deluxe on dvd, Fullasoul put that one out.

TSOV boot (and dvd, which is also circulating) is saved by Prince's brilliant guitar work on that night. This release still has one of the best versions of The Ride that I have heard anywhere.

I meant TSOV and wrote Undertaker, corrected.

Vitriol, NO I can't rip it myself nor can 99% of us here because I don't have a Laserdisc player nor the original LD and I'm quite sure most people here don't either.

And it's not about is it better with or without the interviews, that's how it was released and that's how I want it. D&P might have been better without Tony M's contributions but I'm not gonna replace my CD by Ernest's edited version. Call me a completist or whatever but i don't like to toy with released records, I want 'em the way they are cool

I have a video rip, but for some reason I believe the sound quality to be much inferior to what 4DF can do cool

Finding an original laserdisc is possible, but finding a working player to play it on would be much harder I would imagine.

4DF can and have worked wonders in terms of improving sound on their releases.

Taking parts of the music out of the music is an atrocity.

Taking stupid comments in between performances out of a live recording is, imho, a very clever move.

Anyway, as with every Prince live release, the performance is incomplete and not in order. Keeping the comments would take out the value of 4DF's contribution. Their job would be reduced to a mere transfer.

I'm sure their aim was to create a 'clean' performance cd. That's why the comments were left out.

I'm cool with that. But why not release BOTH versions so people have a choice? It's only files it's not like printing CD's, it wouldn't cost 'em more wink

Well, they might read this thread and maybe heed your suggestion.

I don't see that happening. But who knows?

At least on the audio we don't have to look at him as well as listen.

Yes, I'm sure from now on before releasing anything 4DF will start a thread here saying 'So.. we're trying to release this. Feel free to say what you want in and what you want out'.

I think it'll be called 4DF's Personalized series. A different release for every listener fullfilling his own requirements.

Is that it? razz

What about a choice of artwork?

They could hold an artwork poll.

lol

No, I'm thinking of an holographic cover where a lot of different slides are displayed; then you press your thumb on the one you like and... ta da! That's YOUR cover.

I have the TSOV Japanese laserdisc and a player. However, I have no idea how to rip the audio. Maybe record it to DVD and rip the audio from that?

What u need to do is put your hands on a stereo recording software (there are many, i bought one but i'm quite sure u can find freewares), play it into ur computer by pugging ur LD player or ampli as an external source (just be careful to close all the programs that make sound such as Skype, MSN, ur email alert, etc.) and then record it as one long track (that u can cut into several tracks later if u wanna). U gotta test the volume b4 recording, too, cuz it might b too loud or too quiet.

As 4 4DF's release, they'll never satisfy just everyone, but their work is great and they do it for free so I certainly won't complain about it (now one can say what one would like to have, won't hurt anyone ^^).

What I'm embarrassed by comes from internet users in general: more and more people tend to edit albums and songs to their convenience and put the result online. We've all sometimes skipped a song while listening to an album, but a record is a record. If things keep going like that we'll soon end up with edited versions of novels being shared as e-books: "Oh, I didn't like this chapter of this Hemingway book, so I edited it out and I'm sure everybody will feel more comfortable with the new version". People should show more respect for original art: despite its mistakes, a work of art should be respected and left the way it is, and this includes the interviews Prince puts on his video albums weither one like'em or not. You're not gonna saturate the colors on a Van gogh painting just to make it "look better", will you?

Just my opinion and I know so no need to tell me: no one gives a fuck about it lol

^Agreed!

Those NPGVandals guys seem to put out modified versions of TRC, NEWS and others.

I was never bothered grabbing those and I think it's a shame some do: that way they'll keep on screwing Prince's entire discography.

You could always download the circulating Sacrifice Of Victor dvd, then rip the audio (including interviews) from that.

I did that 5 or 4 years ago but the sound quality has nothing to do with 4DaFunk's release. Unless a better version of the video has surfaced since what u could find 5 years ago?
