iTunes is still in the dark ages of regional releases.

I had no idea. Sounds like they want to keep the downloads in the US where they have more control on the copyrights. Sadly, we seem to be a nation of lawyers.

No thanks.

I prefer the original. Prince has nothing on The Beatles. That solo with his "Look a'me, I'm a rawk star!" face is hugely overrated. Now kill me! razz

TDG and ParanoidAndroid, you are both so wrong... disbelief

Sorry lol

I don't like iTunes though, I wasn't going to download it anyway. Still good news for those who will wink

Don't they need Prince's permission to put it up there?

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

I doubt they need Prince's permission, as he is not the copyright holder of the song performed.

Nooooo, guitar solos will never be overrated, maybe some,

but it's all about the expression, raw power

of your inner soul

if you're great in playing one the listener will know.

^ It was Eric Clapton who originally played on the Beatles record. wink

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a song written by George Harrison. It was first performed by The Beatles for their double album The Beatles (also known as The White Album), featuring the lead guitar of Eric Clapton.

I think Prince did it justice, excellent solo, IMO.

brilliant guitar cool biggrin

I know, but it's The Beatles song. If Prince covered the whole song even with vocals, it would be another bad cover like Creep (and I don't even like the original). He surely knows how to butcher classics. WMGGW solo IS overrated. Compare it to Prince's solo on Just My Imagination..THAT'S brilliant.

butcher classics? I mean yes Prince's voice isnt suited for that song. It would be like Paul Mccartney covering kiss which would be an even bigger disaster smile

Anyway i dont see what the problem was with the solo on WMGGW. Some people overrated it a bit but they were the ones who had no idea Prince was an excellent guitarist.

for me that clip shows the worlds guitarists that Prince is a credible player..for so long he has been derided and overlooked as a guitar player, more like a pop star who can play a few instruments which inc guitar.

True he borrows loads from other players but so what, I think its one of his best appearances (of this kind) and i'll never tire of listening/watching it.

of course the difference between JMI and WMGGW is that the latter was seen & heard by a huge global audience whereas JMI has only been heard by fans.

That performance was designed for Prince's guitar solo to shine. He played rhythm guitar throughout, and you barely knew he was even there. Then, on cue, everyone basically stepped aside and it was on.

Dhani Harrison was grinning ear-to-ear during that solo.

All the greats borrow from other musicians before them, of course. No guitar player is completely uninspired by other guitarists, except for the guy who invented the instrument. With that said, Prince has a truly unique and recognizable sound, and not just to Prince fans.
