Bruce Springsteen mention Prince in his greatest hits liner notes

Bruce Springsteen wrote some trivia about the songs on his greatest hits album.

In the liner notes for Dancing in the Dark he wrote

that the song was number 2

on the charts and he said :Damn the Artist Formaly known as Prince smile.

Prince was at number 1 spot with When Doves Cry.

p.s. Dancing in the Dark sounds like something Prince could cover

No offense, but that CD's been out for what, 15 years? This is hardly news.

Someone once told me that "The Holy River" was Prince's answer to a Springsteen song named "The River", because "The River" was about divorce or break-up (can't remember) and THR was about marrying, but i never checked Springsteen's song so i can't say. Does it make any sense?

Newbies! All of you!

(just kidding)

Bruce's "The River" isn't really about marriage or divorce. It's about a guy facing up to the fact that his life isn't working out quite the way he dreamed it would. Marrying too young is part of that, but I think calling "The Holy River" an answer is a pretty massive leap.
