"Ahhhh soo nice... soo nice"..in my Morris Day voice lol . No this is a fantastic playlist.

I keep feeling like I'm missing something ... a bside or protege song that should be there

Violet Blue by Jill Jones biggrin . How I love that song mushy I know it was released in '87 and probably written a couple of years before that but to me it fits perfectly with the feel of Parade.

wink I was thinking about Violet Blue too... Well Mia Bocca was released in 1987 too but we sure know that was made during the Parade sessions and an instrumental of the song is in the movie Under the Cherry Moon

I was thinking Merci 4 the Speed of a Mad Clown in Summer by Sheila, I love that instrumental jam and it has that carnival feel too it that works with Parade

Yep another good choice by Sheila. I am making a CD with all those tracks you listed right now since I have time on my hands. I've been wanting to do this for a while. My drive is going to be so sweet tomorrow nod

Proving yourself a hardcore fan doesn't require you to dismiss the pop perfection of Kiss or the multi-platinum Purple Rain OST. Parade is still a classic with or without it though granted.

Parade, as released, is a very unsatisfying album to me. I can't explain what it is, but some of the tracks just leave me cold. I am another of the Org's playlist geeks, so I decided to make my own configuration, which I vastly prefer to the released version. That said, I still wouldn't put either version in my Top Ten Prince albums.

Prince and the Revolution - Under the Cherry Moon

1. Girls and Boys (version from Work it 2.0 with clean ending - no segue into Life Can Be So Nice)

2. New Position (doubled to create a longer track)

3. heart or $ (Extended Version)

4. Alexia de Paris (Extended Version)

5. Under the Cherry Moon (abum version)

6. Mountains (12" version)

7. Kiss (album version)

8. Anotherlover... (12" version)

9. naM tsenoH nA (segue - "An Honest Man" from Crystal Ball, played backwards)

10. Old Friends 4 Sale (original version)

11. Sometimes It Snows In April (album version)

why put 1.5 mins of him singing backwards? that would get extremely boring and annoying.

I thought I was alone in my love for Merci 4 the Speed of a Mad Clown in Summer, it would have fit a Madhouse CD perfectly too. I cue up Sheila's album just for that sometimes.

Violet Blue is gorgeous, I would love Prince to cover it live, I think it would work really nice live.

This is what makes Parade tolerable for me!! Hmm, Hmm, Hmm, Prince is/was one fine man. Love the Kiss video, and that song is too funky, one of his best!!! Other than Kiss, I really could do w/o the album. Well, I do like CT Parade and SISIA, but the album just still hasn't "got me" yet..

Yes I agree. They all looked hot around that time.

I went to youtube to get my fix of Parade, but it seems they are on the ball all of a sudden in the removal of music there. Not just Prince.

after looking through this thread again and seeing all the pictures from that era.. and realizing pretty much every one of them is in black and white.. i think that might have something to do with why i dont like parade. maybe its not so much the music, but just the colorless, bland images it puts in my head. when i think of parade, i think of black and white. and when i think of black and white, i certainly dont think of happiness, and thats how prince usually makes me feel. so since this album doesnt make me feel as good as his others, i dont like it as much.

thats gotta be it. or at least most of it.

confuse

i think its an ok album, and i dont see why some people put it above all his others. i know everybodys gonna say the best part about it is kiss... but id like to know what else everyone loves about it so much? its just such an odd sounding album to me. maybe thats whats so appealing to everyone?

and kiss makes me cringe eek

but then again, lots of my favorites seem to be the ones that everyone dislikes the most. so maybe im just weird? is there anybody who actually doesnt like parade? or dare i ask (again..) kiss?

eek

wow i knew they existed i KNEW IT!!!

orgers we have found somebody who DOESNT like parade....

eek eek eek eek eek

In the OP's defense, the first time I listened to "Parade" I was not impressed at all. It took me years to appreciate it.

Its def one of the most courageous & adventurous albums I could think of. And as far Prince is concerned, not only the album but every outtake and side project that came from that year was a feast to my ears.

kiss is a perfect song, yet it is the only one i tend to skip on the album. At first listen I didn't know what to think of songs like Christopher tracys parade. He's got a few weird songs on first listen.

Maybe not locking the thread, but come on!!! One of the resons the OP does not like the album is because the pictures are in b&w?

That is like saying that you don't like Purple Rain because there is too much purple on the cover.

If you happened to have a brain, you wouldn't have asked that.

If someone doesn't like an album, so be it. But if that someone is so desperate for attention that starts a thread asking what's so great about one of the best albums recorded by ANY musician and for worse blames her dislike of it on black and white pictures it's clear that that someone doesn't even have HALF a brain.

The fact of this thread being open is an insult to all of us.

You have chosen your username well. Is there anything you say that isn't downright offensive. neutral

I agree that the black + white pictures excuse is completely stupid, but people are allowed to dislike things you like. Everyone has different opinions from each other, so just because you don't agree with what I'm/they (are) saying, that doesn't mean I/they don't have a brain. Generally most music fans do not consider Parade as one of the best albums ever. So does that make them retarded?

Special thanks 2 Clare Fischer 4 making brighter the colors Black & White

The Black & White images have nothing 2 do with it. It reads like your just looking 4 a reason 2 not like the album... I not saying that 2 be nasty or anything, just when u add on stuff like that it seems that way

3 out of 4 of the videos were in intense color.

Even looking at the Black & White photos & movie you can imagine the color. That's creativity and having an open mind.

better this than another thread about pictures of the back of Prince's left knee. at least it's a discussion about his music. and a fairly decent one at that. the predictable snotty douchery of certain orgers notwithstanding.

It's quite pathetic that anyone has to say that in (or what's supposed to be) the music (and More) forum. How many threads are actually about the music? sad
