Um, do you live in the US? Cuz that's not true, if so. You a damn lie.

as a kid, we said act your age, not your IQ. to comment on how immature AND stupid they were. shrug

shoe size was what it was derived from though. the old people's version.

Yeah, I actually confirmed it with someone else that they had -only- heard it as IQ and never as shoe size. But he's from the midwest.

i don't think prince even wrote this section of the song. didn't he just write the first verse & chorus and then give it to mazarati & david z? the second & third verses were presumably written by david z., somebody in mazarati, or someone else involved in recording the mazarati version, right?

the IQ number is not meant to be their age but an indication of how they act or function.

Yes, I know that. My point is that it doesn't make sense. Your shoe size is almost always going to be a lower number than your age. Your IQ isn't.

it just means you act a lot stupider than your age. shrug

do the sayings that kids use need to be that logically thought out?

No, it doesn't. If your IQ is invariably higher than your age, telling someone to act their age instead of their IQ is telling them to act younger (ie, more stupidly) than their intelligence would indicate.

You must have hung out with some very dumb kids. lol

I also heard it the first time in that song. back then my English wasn't that good and in Austria we don't have that saying or anything that would compare to it.

yes, I get it. but the gist of it is that your IQ is very, very low. so low that it's even lower than your age.

Still makes no sense. You can be a vegetable and still have an IQ higher than the age of a child.

do children who use the phrase even know what an IQ is? the scale, I mean? they just know it means how smart you are. not that baseline retards start out at 20.

it really isn't that serious. I mean, are we going to look into the realism in "I don't shut up, I grow up and when I see you I throw up" next?
