Still Would Stand All Time

Why doesnt anyone mention this song? I love the bridge to the song.

The movie performance is a classic to me. I love his facial expressions when he say, "oh love can you please just me a sign."

Studio version was my favorite for a long time, but the Small Club version rules in my book.

I want to hear alternate studio versions of this song...

even from today! Like the way he revamped Empty Room.

Never liked it.

As most of the ballads from this time period (G.Bridge, Grand Progression) it's boring to my ears.

I can fall asleep before any of those reaches his middle point.

awesome song and for my money one of his best vocal moments.. the last couple minutes especially.

i love it when he gets all soulful screamy.

This and "The Ladder" are his best attempts as gospel-like sound

Definitely one of his greatest vocal performances. You can feel that he means every syllable of this song. I have loved this song from the 1st listen!!!

It's a great song, no doubt. But the song that won the "battle" with Morris, naaah. Yet another reason GB was a ridiculous movie.

I agree with the other poster who said it was good because it wasn't too religiousy.

My $0.02

I agree with you the (Small Club Lovesexy rendition) is magical, but I think that whole show had some kind of Special Purple glow on it

Graffiti Bridge was the 1st full Prince album I heard and I loved it all (still do). BUT the Small Club version of Still Would Stand All Time has blown the album version out of the water. If you don't have a copy of Small Club seek it out. Probably one of THE best Prince albums either official or not.

Love both versions - great gospel song. In amongst all the turgid nonsense of Graffiti Bridge, songs like this, Question of U and Joy in Repitition prove there's a great album screaming to get out!

My friend, you misunderstand me. Prince says that line in the Small Club gig recording, that's why i used the quotation marks. Me and my buddy always used to laugh when we'd hear him castize his band members in out-takes and demos. First thing i think of when someone mentions that song. Apologies for the confusion. smile

During the Small Club performance, Cat or Boni (can't tell) is clearly singing "Still will stand all time"... You can tell Prince is trying to give them a hint that it's "would" because he starts to overemphasize the beat on "would"... Then after a while he just turns around and says, "Who's the fool singing "will", it's WOULD! Time would stand still! Yes it would!"

Exactamundo me ol mucker. i should have been more clear tho, it did look a bit like a bait. Can't expect everyone on here to be familiar with all the live gigs!
