http://www.cafemaroon.com/listening-section/corinne-bailey-rae-i-wanna-be-your-lover-prince-cover/

Not sure if this has already bee posted or not, but this site has Corrine's version on there....

Verdicts please!!

And I'm sorry but not sure how to post a proper link... so some copying and pasting will have to be done if I can't do it any other way!

I think it's pretty good, but the drums really let it down!

I'm really not a fan of hers, but this cover was fairly enjoyable.

I'm listening this very right moment, and my instinct comment is, that was not needed. That said, I know the feeling of singing a Prince song. Who wouldn't want to...

Even though this is one of my top 5 Prince songs I still gave it a listen (as I usually avoid listening to covers). I felt this version lost momentum after about a minute and a half whereas Prince's version just gets better and better.

On a side note... would Prince himself give this the go-ahead or is that Warner's decision?

Its cool that she is covering P and she is a very talented woman but its just so-so

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Her version didn't "razz my jazz" like my grandmother would say. I exited out a little after a minute.

"You need to laydown and let me show you how we do this thing up in funky town. From the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound! Come on, now!"

the retro synth and strings are cute. Obviously not trying to hard to make a contemporary hit out of it.

wink I tried to like it... but I feel like, if youre gonna cover someone iconic, at least try to make it your own... when u just redo it the way everyone's used to hearing it, 110% of the time youre just setting yourself up for a major fail...

I would have preferred her try something different, like an all acoustic version or something...

Change it one more time..

not bad. not great. i like the "lucky star" thing going on periodically with the synths. not quite the usual music-to-sip-decaf-to that she usually does, but it's still got those "just woke up from a cough syrup induced nap" vocals.

"does my cock look fat in these jeans?"

You all should hear her cover of Bob Marley's Is This Love, that is wow! I think she's simply amazing
"So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

in agreement with most of the comments on here. It's not particularly inspired really. I'm not sure why artists rehash covers of songs and make them sounds more or less the same (in terms of production and arrangement), the whole point of a cover for me is to individualise a song and make it your own. I dont listen to that track and think, yeah that's Corrine's sound alright.

I also think it's a bit disappointing how Corrine seems to be trying to re-brand herself as this sex kitten, this track and her last single closer (or at least the video for closer) are definitely treading down this path.

I'm not suggesting for one moment that Corrine isn't absolutely divine, as she was just jaw dropping in her outfit at Glastonbury, but that was more classy chic sexy. just not sure the whole overtly sexy girl image is one that really suits her.
