It's a combination of the male and female sex symbols and the alchemical symbol for soapstone, designed for Prince, and officially named Love Symbol #2

Thats all there is to it, no further posts in this thread will be necessary.

Here is Toejam's response to a similar question on an old thread:

"Ahh, a good old "prince" thread... Haven't seen one of them in a while wink

Yeah, the symbol is a mix between the traditional male and female symbols along with and an alchemy/soapstone symbol.

Alchemy is the ancient art of turning base metals into pure gold (which is, of course, impossible according to modern science). For thousands of years rulers were always interested in being able to manufacture pure gold from everyday materials and would go to crazy lengths to try and find its secrets. Whoever owns the gold makes the rules so they say...

However alchemy is also seen as a spiritual journey. As alchemists embark on a life long task of trying to do something that is seemingly impossible, it is also a metaphor for turning oneself, your inner soul, into "gold". Hence the term "alchemy" has become synonomous with change/inspiration/growth etc.

It's interesting that there are a lot of references to "gold" and "alchemy" in Prince's 90s work - 3 Chains 'O' Gold, Goldnigga, The Gold Experience "...until the stud in your mouth turns gold" (Mad Sex), "... the alchemy occured most in the Muse" (The Rainbow Children) etc...

Not that I'm saying Prince knows the secrets of alchemy lol, but it's certainly something that he related to back then (the life long struggle between him and WB perhaps?) and incorporated into his music (and the now famous symbol)." cool

The problem is there's no need to see what others 'make of it'.

It is what it is. Period.

I can't recall the details, but I seem to remember

Prince saying about the symbol that "for every man

there is a perfect female counterpart." So the symbol

was representing your soulmate.

Should you use proper English I might've gotten to know what you're trying to say.

But something tells me I'm not missing much...

Okay... anyway

I thought of it as a male & female combination, representing Prince's androgyny. Since he wanted to be perceived as both, spiritually, when he'd first started, and still to this day. It's a Prince thing razz

But good answers from the previous posts, gives me new ideas smile which is the point of discussion boards

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Nope. I'm not even an English speaking native.

That's why it gets too much on my nerves that a big bunch of you don't have a clue about using your own language. That's shameful, right?

And, again, please stop seeing things with the symbol.

It's a mix between Prince's usual male/female symbols and the Alchemy symbol for soapstone as it has already been said several times on this thread. It is THAT and anything else IT ISN'T. Period.

well, thanks for trying to tell native english users what to do with our own lanuage...we can twist and turn all we want...its STILL a free country...USA anyways..

and until PRINCE himself tells us his FULL meaning behind his symbol...(which by the way is the

same symbol he's been using for years, he later put the horn/cornicopia squiggly through the center of it amidst the WB issues) he did not create the symbol "as is".

..its a total variation on his original "logo" (like the one that appears on the motorcycle in purple in rain for example).

Sorry but it's not YOUR language. English people created it, you just destroy it.
