new wave

My wish for a new Prince album would be in a new wave style. It could even be unreleased songs from back in the day. I'd love to hear some vintage synths and that punk attitude. In a video he could even utilise his old angry stare. I love that stuff. It's so much fun. There are so many political and societal wars, nevermind real ones,I think the time would be good for this.

I'd love to hear raw bass, fast live drumming, machine gun guitar attacks....Please,bring it!Be a punk/new wave rocker again. And then go on tour with Fishbone.

Enough with the grasping. Let the motherfucker do what he do. Asking him to do New Wave is asking him to repeat Dirty Mind-1999 and I'd rather that sound remain elusive to him as he'd truly turn it into something unappealing today.

When Prince starts making music with people who are hungry to make music, then we can talk. Until then and for as long as he makes music with tired ass pros, he's going to make snooze-worthy tunes. I get why he wants a tight band, but his bands have always been tight - even when they were sloppy like the Revolution.

i Know what you mean, certain songs had a mild touch of that quick New Wave feel from his DM/Controversy sound:

Compassion especially

No, it does I'm not saying it excecutes it perfectly, but I know by the sound that Prince was trying for it...

that quick sound heard on Sexuality & Tick Tick Bang. No comparison, but I instantly heard that.

Oh, it hurts my eyes.

I understand what you're talking about, but I think you really mean "Compassion" sounds like "Let's Pretend We're Married" and that's about it. The rest of the album doesn't have much in the way of an old school sound other than the guitar/synth hook on Beginning Endlessly and the synth hook on Lavaux.

ehhh I'm not saying Compassion sound like any other song, I'm just talking about that quick change double hand clap stuff that reminds me of those 2 Controversy era songs Tick Tick Bang Sexuality

Don't take what I'm saying as comparing the albums and saying Prince nailed it.

I don't think Compassion sound like Let's Pretend We're Married, just by the speed of the songs. But we all listen for certain things, and that's ok.

I never said it had an old school sound. I was just and only talking about some of those touches that told me Prince was trying to pull from his Controversy era, it's heard in Compassion Beginning Endlessly Lavaux Sticky Like Glue Act of God & 20Ten.

I guess we'll finally come to crossed paths. I listen to Controversy every day. I couldn't imagine thinking that "Sticky Like Glue" sounds anything like it. I couldn't imagine any of that. The reason I mention LPWM is because it has the same persistent background drum pattern especially during the instrumental breakdown before the end of the song's "Ooh we sha sha coocoo yeah" part.

I listen to Sexuality (every live version too) Tick Tick Bang, Dirty Mind & Controversy too ALOT lol Bru it's cool, we have 2 different sets of ears

I'm sorry, maybe I'm not being exact. I'm talking about music from that era Controversy & What Time Is It (Controversy era) & outtakes... lol I'm not saying it SOUNDs exactly like Controversy album music, I listen to certain movements, how a song might be sung, hand claps, how the high hat might be played etc so

But I don't think Compassion has a persistent background drum, he throughs in the handclaps and breaks and the beat changes for the chorus. It actually changes up 3 times. LPWM definately stays the same throught.
