Pack your bags, Prince

Pack your bags, Prince, we're going on a trip. You can bring the following items: piano, drums, 2 guitars (electric and acoustic) and a bass. I'll bring the 4-track recorder.

Check out this mountain cabin! It's yours for as long as you need it. No, I'm not staying. You need to be on your own now. No proteges, no perfumes, no hologram CD's, none of the trappings of fame. Just you and your God-given talent.

See, you're gonna make the blues album you've never gotten around to. All we want is your voice, alone, telling us how you really feel. Start verses with "I" instead of "All the party people say..." No poom poom, no opposite of nato is otan, no musicology classes. Just you singing about you. That's the blues.

You need more tracks, just bump them down. Worked for The Beatles.

"Hold on, wait a minute, ain't no good unless somebody else is in it."

"Uh, no. Tell that to Robert Johnson."

"I can't do it."

"You have before...Empty Room, I WIll, Let's Have A Baby, How Come U DOn't Call Me Anymore?, Savior, I Hate U, The Question of U, Sometimes It Snows In April, Purple Rain, I Love U But I Don't Trust U ANymore, and your best blues song, When Doves Cry."

You are gonna have to reach rock bottom. You're gonna have to listen to that silence. Then you can fill it with your voice, your song.

C'mon, Prince. We know you can do it. We have faith in you.

Don't be scared. Trust yourself.

And when your work is done, we'll be here FOR YOU.

Let the rain come down
