It seems to be a shared thought that SOTT is the best Prince album out there, by critics and fans.

Not to me. I think its a blast!

Its very Prince. Sparse on instrumentals and vocals speaks for them selves.

And a super track to beatmix with on the turntables btw...

One of my favorite top 10 Prince songs!

"It" does what he was trying to do with tracks like "Witness 4 the Prosecution" and "The Cross" a little bit better, imo. That minimalist funk/rock backed with soul lead vocals. To me, "It" is the first glimpse you get of where Prince was really going with his music. You could almost see it as a precursor to tracks like "Dance On" and "The Future".

its ok but i feel he had stronger tracks he could have put on SOTT. Last Heart, Crucial, Joy In Repitition, Train, Wonderful ass IMO are all better.

Thanks!

"It" is a quiet masterpiece IMO

The "Forever in my life" / "It" medley of SOTT Live is one his absolute moments.

Though its not proper live, who cares, its awesome!

Happy newyears everyone!

he captures the rauch & makes no secret about what 'it' is.. no mystery or riddles, it is was it is..

i loved this song on 1st listen & easily one of my top favourites. the pulse of the drum & screaming guitar is full of tension, flows in2 a heady swirl of near climax! his voice sounds totured with lust & begging for sexual relief. this song makes me really wanna help him with that!

he makes no secret fucking on his mind. i'd love to know exactly what he thought about that much to reach that condition.

ultimately i imagine he ends up jerkoff

One thing that solidified my liking of this song was the Joffrey Ballet's awesome performance, I LOVE that section!

Consider what he didn't put on the album, all that brilliant material, so calling it a "filler" isn't really appropriate. There was absolutely no need to put anything that he wouldn't have been happy about himself on the album. He seems to have wanted to have several minimalist tracks on the album and, at the very least, "It" was a better choice than, say, "Big Tall Wall".

I'm really with the people who are saying that there are better songs, but this one just... fits. I sometimes think of it as the 'Lady Cab Driver' of Sign o' the Times. It's just Prince, alone in the studio, eatin' them Doritos, and horny as a hound dog. It's claustrophobia, obsession, lust, madness. Is 'Crucial' a better song? Yes. But is it 'It'? No. cool

Always loved it and never realized there was so much debate about it, to be honest. I think it fits where it is on the album and I always thought the drum pattern was great representation of what the song is about.

Does every album need a best and worst song?

I love SOTT all the way through. No fillers

probably the MOST under rated Prince track. One of my favorites of that era if no my favorite. I'm not kidding that song is perfect in every way.
