"Another Lonely Christmas"

One of his best non-album tunes imo.

And do you think Prince ever had a banana daiquiri on Christmas day?

the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

The extended version is particularly awesome.

I'm so in love with this song right now. [Snip - Mars23]

He said in an interview that the story was fiction, but who knows, maybe he did drunk banana daiquiri that night he wrote it.

Doesn't seem like a tasty drink to me though lol

But it's an amazing song and I will probably never get tired of it

Yes, and the full rehearsal is on this too, great release.

It is a great song. I heard a live version of it yesterday but it was pulled by the NPG.

Yes, wonder how they found out about it...

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

nod The extended version is funny, the way Prince sings about his woman drinking banana daiquiris, getting horny, then making Prince leave the lights on while they had sex.

Do U still like banana daiquiris?
Boy, we used 2 get so tight
Ooh, U used 2 get so horny
U made me leave the lights on
I'd pay money just 2 see your laughin' dancin' silhouette upon the pier
Sometimes I think I hear U smiling
Sometimes I think U're here
I find myself holdin' every pillow in the bed U and I used 2 share
Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, U should be, U should be there

lol

Definitely LOVE it biggrin. It does kinda make me mad that "Another Lonely Christmas" and other types of B-sides like it (Erotic City, Love Or Money, 17 Days) don't get the upfront A-sides or concert coverage, u know? These gems are just left to being wanted 2 b played live by starving Prince fans like myself.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Sometimes you just have to wonder at how brilliant this guy is. Another Lonely Christmas has a strange effect on me, the way the lyrics are arranged in the mix, the whole whining guitar and flittering drums just drip me in a funk that takes me back to all the lost loves in my life and the heartbreak seems all too present. And when lyrically he reveals that this isn’t just a break-up song, but a song of mourning the whole emotion of the track just goes to another level.

Prince did very well back then with songs that could be real or fantasy. It was all so human and touchable. It was all a part of that Uptown / Erotic City mystery just works

I agree..-cool In fact, I think it's one of his best songs, period. I love the "sound" of the song. I believe it was recorded in a warehouse (like some songs on Purple Rain album). It remind me of those old hippy jams from the '60's. It's just an all around great song. Prince at his best, right there.

I remember several years ago Prince was interviewed and answered some questions online. I think he was asking what songs we would like to hear live. I wrote I would like to hear ALC, because it was Christmas time. His response was "Yikes!" or something like that. So I doubt if we're ever hear that one...cool

I heard it being played on Radio 2 today.

Craig Charles is standing in for Steve Wright.....First time I've ever heard it on the radio...brilliant.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I always think the echo he used on the vocals sounds like all the empty rooms in his heart.

I sure wish Prince still wrote and recorded songs like "Another Lonely Christmas". This song is musically so rich and honest. Sounds like a full band recording in its fullness, not musically stripped down. Love the drum sound as well as the electric guitar. Classic tune.

I think the drumming is Prince, it does sound like his 'frantic' playing. There could be other musicians on it here and there though

I'm sure it is Prince on the drums. It sure sounds like him. What I meant by "full band sound" was just the fact that the song is not musically stripped down. It would take a full band to play that song live. I just prefer that overall sound to stripped down songs like "Kiss" or "New Position" or "Sign 'o The Times". I like the stripped sown songs such as those but prefer the fuller sounding stuff like "Another Lonely Christmas", "Little Red Corvette", "Purple Rain", "When U Were Mine", etc. I've noticed over the years that I have not gotten tired of listening to the fuller sounding songs nearly as much as the stripped down ones.
