nay, i wish he would stick to his own stuff. enough already!

I have to disagree. I love to hear Prince sing "Can't Hide Love" by Earth, Wind and Fire. I so dig that!!! Maybe he has to keep the shows exciting for himself so he adds songs that he has loved forever, ya dig? I mean, to hear Prince sing "Journey to the center of your heart" is so beautiful when he sings it. And when I heard Prince sing "Elixer", I truly fell in love with song more......cool cool cool

boxed .. i was referring to the songs that he's been doing in concert this year, by the time &

gc station....over the years, over & over, they been done to death (i used to like everyday people, damn u prince!)

& the time songs aren't everyone's cup of tea, there is a reason he gave those songs away! considering he has loads of classy material his choices are bloody odd

i can cope with the hits but wish he'd make the bits in between more interesting, preferably with his 'own' stuff. i'm not entirely opposed to covers thrown into the mix, as long as they new exciting & got plenty substance

i would say yes because if you didn't know who wrote the songs they are associated with other artists.

but if you didn't know that he wrote them, would you know that those artists were associated? i think in 2010, it's fairly well known if you're someone who's inclined to go to a Prince concert.

what i'm tryin 2 say is that when the songs are predominately associated with singers/groups those songs become theirs regardless of who wrote the buggers!

tbh i don't think prince does these songs justice (with the exception of love bizarre which doesn't count!)

i'm not especially keen on hearing prince do 'nothing compare 2 u & feel 4 u'

Well, "Feel For You" was recorded and released as a Prince record way before Chaka re-did it, so that can't be included on a list of songs he "took back" by performing it all the time.

lol he only embraced it after chaka made it a hit, the same with nothing compares! & it's fair to suggest he doesn't improve these songs when he does them?

when he sings these songs i get the same omfg NO! feeling i get when i hear someone trying 2 cover a prince track

All I can say is I wish he'd play more of his OWN songs that he don't play so often. Of all the AMAZING songs Prince has...why is he waisting time playing crap by The Time or Sheila E? I mean, really?! What about his other songs that he rarely plays anymore like Somebody's Somebody or Blue Light? If he does do cover songs, please at least cover nice songs like Betcha By Golly Wow!

exactly!

You have to remember that you guys hear all the shows (assuming you have the boots, and I'm guessing you do or you wouldn't be complaining).

But if you're at that show and don't know what's coming, I think Prince playing some songs he wrote for others is great. I'd prefer that most of the show be his own catalogue, meaning stuff he released himself, but mixing in some outside work is OK with me.

A cover song is something written by someone else BUT there's cases when a song was covered by someone else and they redefined it to the point that they took it back and did it a whole other way at their shows.

But if he wrote it, as soon as someone reinterprets it and it becomes a success, it becomes their song, even if he still gets money back from it. Even when he sings them, they're associated with someone else singing them.

And then you have a case like "Cinnamon Girl", where some reviewers were going"not the Neil Young song", which prob. disappointed people that wanted to hear Prince do something loud and "grungy".

And I know it's not a cover, but can we have Moonbeam Levels? Just once?

Oh man, don't get me started on this.... or on Eye Wonder

How about Baby, Ur a Trip, or just one last time, Possessed. Also Automatic

And I'm not sure why, but Feel U Up (If he played this my head would explode)

I don't mind him playing songs he wrote for other artists with ONE BIG EXCEPTION:

Drop the damned versions of NC2U !!!!

It's really weird: he's playing the cover version of his own song. The original is very different and superior to the melodramatic version by Sinead. Might be a nice idea to play this song in a version similar to the one on the Family album.

If he wrote it I'm happy for him to play it. I personally don't need covers of other artists stuff though.

My thoughts exactly.

I'll have another glass of you.

I don't think people would mind 1 cover. He's always done that..

But when we get 3+ covers it's a bit too much

He was way to many songs released(album/bside/longversion) unreleased, protege songs he could play. So many great songs that we just don't hear live

I would love to hear

1 Dance Electric

2 God(either version)

3 Tamborine

4 America

5 Private Joy

6 It's Gonna Be Lonely

7 Lovesexy

8 I Wish U Heaven

9 Play In the Sunshine

10 Love 2 the 9s

11 Space

12 New Position

13 My Drawers

14 Ice Cream Castles

15 OneDayI'mGonnaBeSomebody

16 High Fashion

17 Feline (instrumental)

18 some Madhouse

etc etc

I loved that Prince played 3 "The Time" tracks (Cool, Jungle Love, The Bird) and two "Sheila E" songs (Glamourous Life, A Love Bizarre) during his concert in Holland the 18th of November. To me they were the icing on the cake of an already very good concert. Honestly, I was so happy to see him play a full version of Cool that he could have ended the gig right after that track and I would still have left with a grin from ear to ear!!!

Still, there were complaints by both the media and by some fans about Prince proclaiming his "Too many hits, too little time" statement, and then playing a lot of tracks that officially are not hits under his own name.

What do yo feel about Prince playing tracks that were not released under his own name? Should he stick to his own material, or is he "allowed" to also play hits that he wrote for other artists?

He wrote it, so why not ...

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
