(purple card suspension) who is Sophie on the extended version of Kiss?

I know I need to turn in my purple card or maye just have it suspended but I never found out who was playing Sophie on the long version of Kiss. The "housewife" of Sol (Prince) who is calling Prince the "strangest looking thing" as if they are watching Prince on television.

One thing for sure is that though Prince had that stoic enigma thing going on onstage in the 80's, this dude was/is a clown. He spoke of this in that 1958 RS "Prince Talks" article regarding of "sickness" slang for doing some of the silly things he and his camp put on wax. This one always got to me because I know the character that he was playing was doing part of that Edde Murphy "you know what it is?" father schtick. I loved how he poked fun at himself on this none. He seemd t be self aware of how the general public looked at him and felt about him.

Okay sorry for the turnoff but who was doing that female lead of Sophie? I dont see it on the credits on the jacket etc. and I searched online.

NP - Pull out your copy of "Vibrator" too. Play both her parts back to back. Her accent is pretty thick, even when she tries to affect a different one (on "Kiss").

I thought that was Vanity on Vibrator...the spoken Body Messager portions. Now it all makes sense. It does seem a bit different than Vanity's spoken pronunciations/voice inflections on The Walk.

According to princevault.com, Jill Jones provides the "dialogue on extended version."

Here's the link: http://www.princevault.co...x.php/Kiss

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I don't think its written anywhere, I just assumed that the jewish voice was a direct reference to Edith, its like SPOT on, lol. You're right though, Prince doesn't sound a thing like Archie, but its entirely possible either they were both just doing stereotypically jewish middle america or they were doing the bunkers and P is just a bad voice actor. LOL.

And yeah, you can also see the comparison in the intro to "Mia Bocca" when she is reciting the lyrics to "Baby, You're A Trip"... She has a pretty distinct voice, its like a blend of Susannah and Vanity.

"sterotypically jewish middle america" is a bit of an oxymoron.

it's more of a bad charicature of a New York accent than a Jewish one.

How is that an oxymoron?

Edit: And where do you think that NY accent came from?

you can't get more middle America than where I live and there isn't a lot of Judaism around these parts.

I could care less what their religious beliefs are, but her voice is clearly a Jewish-inspired dialect. That "NY accent" people discuss was primarily derived from Jewish and Italian dialects.

Your turn.

The term "middle America" is a generic term for average families. I'm not inferring that there are lots of jews in the bible belt or wherever "middle America" actually is located.

I presumed you were thinking it was an oxymoron for other reasons. But those accents from New York and whatnot are partly derived from Jewish dialects. This is why stereotypical Jewish accents (like the one Jill Jones uses) can be compared to Edith Bunker. Does this infer Edith is jewish? No. It infers she picked up a local dialect that borrowed from jewish dialects.

You must be referring to the Bronx accent they have...the Bunkers were Irish. Just wanted to avoid any serious stereotyping...but on the "kiss" recording in question, the roles are definitely NOT modeled after the All in the Family characters. Just so you know. check..mate.

they were not mainstream...and they were in the 70s...but lets agree about 50% All in the Family and 50% a generalized characture..Archie Bunker was not the typical american in the 80s..

there are several variations of New York accents dereived from several ethnicities including Jewish, Italian, Irish, etc. the one Jill Jones is employing in her dialogue here isn't a particularly "Jewish" version of it.

as for "middle America" you would be better served using terms that describe what you mean if you're making some kind of point about who the stereotypical charicatures that are being portrayed in this skit are. saying that these New York accents are "sterotypically jewish middle america" is a contradiction.

You seem to be missing the point.

You're welcome.

And as a jewish person, I assure you I'm aware of what a jewish NY accent sounds like. razz
