Prince talked to Hans-Maarten Post before the Antwerp gig

http://standaard.be/artik...d=6R31V6UI

The only important "news":

- wants to release 20Ten in Europe "regularly" (IMHO: can't imagine any company being interested in doing this unless it involved the "deluxe" version)

- after that he MIGHT release the album in the US

No concrete plans for release, maybe cooperation with chain of stores, maybe handing them out after shows.

Rest of it is the usual BS: I do this for my fans, Belgium feels the funk so it gets multiple concerts (yeah sure -- then please explain the ridiculous ticket prices or the insistence of playing aftershows for cash only), read the bible ("it's a history book" -- no it isn't), US politics suck.

Thanks for posting... biggrin

I would buy the 20Ten CD again if the album comes in a regular jewel case.. a jewel case would be much better than the flat paper cover imo.

and... I would love to have a innersleeve booklet (whatever it's called) with artwork and the lyrics printed...

Now - don't call me silly... wink

An English version....courtesy of Google Translate lol.

ANTWERP - Last night Prince played at the Antwerp Sportpaleis. Before he ascended the podium, we were a stop in the locker room.

From our editor

It smells good in black and white Prince dressing room. Prince is also in black and white, at least: the pants he wears it. Over there he has a long black coat, buttoned. His hair a black hat. In the background we hear Joni Mitchell singing softly.

He looks very zen out. Sharp too.And do not remote or mysterious. A little later his background singer Shelby and his girlfriend, Bria Valente stepped inside. On the TV playing something old black and white. "I have the past few days have seen many movies," says Prince.

What Belgium has two concerts and two night concert hall earned?

"You guys feel the funk. You are very receptive to what we do. And if we feel that we get something for you, we will pass it. "

Where is the energy out of that room all night after shows and concerts?

"Simple: I see my job as providing a service to my audience. Is it addictive? In a good way. I invite you to later stand on the podium, you feel it yourself. Or ask that my fans. When I hear how many concerts some of them have already seen me ... "

"This is my job. I can do nothing else. Are there any disadvantages? No. This is a gift from God. Although admittedly quite happen that you write too many songs and quenched it. "

It seems so that your place at the top again are claiming?

"That sounds like something I had lost. So I do not see. What I did, I already did.Why would I want to do again? The most remarkable are those shows. That's it.And I'm glad that my audience understands that. After all these years remain the fans still come. And why? Because they know we bring quality. "

"I bring my CD 20TEN may need further across Europe (in Belgium, he was distributed free through the summer holidays' Het Nieuwsblad'), then I might do something in America. Anything can. I do not want to work under the old principle: an artist brings a plate first and then go touring. Why not release the album after the tour? "

You said a few months ago: Internet is over, but how do you get your music still up to the fans?

"Enough possibilities. Maybe I close a deal with a large supermarket. Maybe I just get my records after my concerts. If you're in my position, anything is possible. "

What is the best advice you ever received?

"Read the Bible. Really. Only when I had read the Bible, I understood how the world works. It is really a history book. Why do not we all together the problems in the world to help Africa? I get it now, thanks to the Bible. "

"America after the recent elections have become a lot more fragmented than it already was, but I understand now more than I ever did."

And then Prince. "Had enough? Good. Cause I gotta go change clothes urgently. "

DoffieParker

seems the same interview has been circulated.. cool tho!
this is a better article.. it talks welcome 2 america & mention of x factor

Welcome 2 America

He says he is Mainly Concerned with Preparing the show That he is on the end of this year in America willing play under the banner "Welcome 2 America ', with many musical guests there." . " "We find the right songs for the right artists." There is Also mention thats in England the final of X Factor Will Do. . It Seems That he 20TEN with new album he released in the summer (and free of charge through your newspaper was offered), in His Place at the top back to claim it.

"That sounds like something I had lost. So I do not see. What I did, I already did. Why would I want to do that again? The most remarkable are those shows. That's it. And I'm glad that my audience understands that. After all these years They still keep coming. And why? Because they know we bring quality.

Bria Valente stepped inside.

So she is still around. Maybe she lifts the speaker cabinets up and puts them on the risers.

What is the best advice you ever received?

And then Prince. "Had enough? Good. Cause I gotta go change clothes urgently.

I think this may have to do with the shart incident:

Some things lost in the translation. Note, I'm quoting the article:

He says "the Belgians are open to what they do and when Prince and co feel that, they like to give back."

He said, "no there are no disadvantages in his job, although sometimes he can write too many songs and suffer a little from " (uitgeblust -could be slight fatigue ((literal translation)) is "puffed out" but no direct English translation here.)

Regarding 20ten, he says "perhaps he'll bring out the cd first throughout the whole of EU and afterwards, maybe he'll do something in the US. Anything's possible."

Distribution: Maybe through retail department chain stores. Maybe he'll give them away after concerts.

The best advice: To read the bible. Only after he had done this did he understand the bigger picture of the world. "Why don't we all collectively help solve the issues in Africa?" He understands this now, thanks to the bible.

Thanks for the updates everyone.

Very interesting translation Bohemian67.. Did Prince say he gets burned out by his prolific songwriting or is he being paraphrased by the interviewer?

As if its him ADMITTING to getting stressed out then the time out he hinted at 3yrs ago (but never took) is probably on the cards biggrin

OR

The fans are in for Lots and Lots of concerts whilst he enjoys the fruits of his uitgeblust!

I know which scenario i'd prefer!

lol

Then do everything to make it go away. rolleyes

No Joyjoy. Burnout in Dutch is "overspannen."

We don't know exacty what Prince said but I guess it's along the line of a "little depleted" of energy sometimes.

'Puffed out'? Soulds like "out of breath" Like when you go on a run and get out of breath.

It's an adjective taken from the Dutch verb blussen, meaning extinguish i.e. put out fires and used also idiomatically. Maybe, he runs out of steam sometimes or loses some wind in his sails....who knows what he said. Maybe it was just " a little tired." cool That's language for you...

Or 'running out of steam' might be more apt here.

I honestly think Prince's music would benefit from him recording less. I don't think every single thought or idea needs to be recorded for posterity. Sometimes distilling those ideas down in the mind over time can give a more satisfyin outcome.

would 'running out of steam' be a longer term issue? I know during the lovesexy shows prince got 'out of breath' a few times. But after a bit he recovered.

so it the implication that he is tired more often?

No, I don't think he's tired more often.

My interpretation is that he has creative urges when the fire/passion is hot. During those times he writes/records a lot and thereafter he needs to recharge his batteries.

Like when you peak for certain projects and then put things on a "een laag pitje," (low, slow flame) to conserve energy.
