Prince could...if he wanted to...

Play with any musician alive. ex., Carlos Santana who I from what I understand was an inspiration to Prince's guitar style. Yet, while Carlos has collaborated with so many musicians...Prince and Carlos haven't recorded together. Why? this question isn't limited to Santana.

Maybe Prince isn't a collarboration kind of guy...

but..

can you image the sounds of a Santana/Prince jazz cd?

Spot on. Prince doesn't like to share the fame and he doesn't like to give solo's away. That's the reason he played, composed and produced almost all of his albums by himself, didn't do any covers for a long time, etc.

The only time he really did collaborations was on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, and that album was meant as a comeback. Once again only for his own good. At that amazing While My Guitar Gently Weeps performance, he kept playing the solo, while the others were trying to go back to the vocal lines again. And when the song was finished, he walked off stage while the rest of the band kept standing on stage, like he was the only musician there and didn't have to pay attention to them.

Prince is an egoist. If you think about it, you know he is. And he can get away with it, because he's a musical genius. He had total control over his albums because he can, he didn't do any covers because he didn't have to pay hommage to other musicians, he could do that solo while ignoring the other musicians because they let him and Prince could do the Rave collaborations because he made sure the other artists couldn't insert any of their own sound.

Now with Santana, that's a different story of course. Prince can't just take the lead and let Santana play in the background, because Santana is a brilliant musician just like Prince. That's why Prince probably won't feel comfortable enough doing the collaboration, so I'm afraid your idea will never happen.

But this is all just what I'm assuming, it's just my opinion. And I have to agree with you, if they manage to find a way together, that CD would be totally awesome!!

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?
