How many versions of the "Lovesexy Live" video????

Hi,

Ok, so i'm just trying to sort it out.

There was

- the 09/09/1988 TV broadcast with part 1 and 2 in the right order, and beginning and end credits only at the beginning and end i guess (?).

- the 2 parts VHS release with part 1 & 2 reversed compared to the original show and beginning and end credits being added on both parts.

- the single VHS release with both parts on one cassette, but part 1 & 2 still reversed and beginning and end credits still on both parts.

- the laserdic release with both parts back in the right order, and beginning and end credits only at the beginning and end.

Am i correct until now?

So what i'd like to know is:

1) Am i correct on the above releases when it comes to the order and the credits?

2) I've read this on another post, written by Gazzlornie, that the laserdic had been edited, i quote him: "the edits .ok I know I'm really picky here ..are at the end of Anastesia..and before Eye No ..the band dressed as "cleaners" brush up all of the confetti etc. on the stage before they disappear under it .. and Cat reappears with the Flowers and Rain is wet chat..! its only about 3 mins but annoys the hell out of me."

-> According to Gazzlornie this was on the VHS and not on the Laserdisc, but i used to have the VHS and i have no memory of such a sequence, so could it be that it was only on the original TV broadcast or am i tripping? On which versions was this exactly? (Note that i've NEVER seen the original TV broadcast, does anyone still have a recording of it somewhere?).

3) Which release is the Livesexy bootleg's sound taken from? It's currently the only version that i have and i'd tend to say that it's from the Laserdisc because the shows aren't interrupted, and feature no beginning and end credits between "Anna Stesia" and "Eye Know". On the other hand, it seems that there's a whole segue between "AS" and "EK", and from my memories the intro of "Eye Know" wasn't complete on the VHS and it seems to be complete here, which would tend to say that the segue Gazzlornie is talking about IS on the Laserdisc. What the hell?

4) Which release is the circulating VD copy from? I have it (but i can't access it for the moment) and from my memories it's similar to the Livesexy bootleg, but i might be wrong and i don't remember the segment Gazzlornie is talking about.

5) In the end, could someone sum-up axactly all the various broadcasts/releases and explain exactly what was different from one to the next, with length details if possible?

Thanks a LOT for your help. As you probably already understood, this is all about the discography i'm working on (see link below), so please let me know because basically the info will be useful to everyone once i have it ^^).

I certainly can't answer all your questions, but in regards to the extra footage that you spoke of between Anna Stesia and Eye Know does exist and is from the TV broadcast, which also has some different camera angles throughout the show. The wait between 1999 and Alphabet St is also on the the televised version. As far as I know it is only availabe on a boot called Livesexy Uncut.

It's been such a long time since I watched this, I'd completely forgotten that the VHS tapes had the two halves of the show the wrong way 'round!

This might be the copy i have on DVD, since it was handmade i can't know what boot it was taken from, but as i said i can't access it now (there's a few thousand kilometers between me and it ^^).

As for the audio version i have here (the well known 2 CD-boot that was on sale everywhere in the early 90's), it seems to be from that source as well cuz there's a long wait between 1999 and Alphabet St.

C'mon guys, with all the hardcore fans out there, i'm sure some of u have the TV broadcast AND the vhs AND the laserdisc. can't anyone check all versions and tell us the exact differences?

And by the way, was the laserdisc released in 1988 as well, or much after the VHS?

The "Lovesexy ‘88" 2-DVD set from Brave includes two different versions. I don't remember which ones, though (TV + VHS or LaserDisc?). Maybe finding this release might help you answer some of your questions...

I also have a TV broadcast from Japan that I am assuming is the same as the official release, since the spoken part by Ingrid Chavez is edited down and the wait between 1999 and Alphabet St is not there.

Doesn't "Livesexy Uncut" combine both versions?

The Livesexy Uncut boot is the original, unedited broadcast. Later, there were other televised versions, but those had been edited like the official release.

All the officially released versions are the same content-wise.

However, the original TV broadcast did contain some different camera shots. As they were broadcasting live and made camera decisions on the fly. They later replaced some of the poor/obscured shots and some of the long shots with better close up's from alternate cameras.

So it starts to make some sense, thanks Boris.

So it means that the laserdisc release had part 1 & part 2 separated by end credits of part 1 and & debut credits of part 2, as on the VHS, and that part 1 & part 2 were reversed as well on the LD??? eek

I have the 2-part, original VHS release, with the show-halves reversed, and the second-half of the concert (ie Tape 1) begins with the whole Ingrid Chavez seque with Cat spinning around the stage in rather lovely attire razz

The end of Tape 2 also features the "cleaners" mentioned and fades once they are on stage.

I remember watching the original broadcast live on TV and just being floored by it! Didn't record it though, as I was staying at my Gran's up in the north of the UK. I passed on a "family night out" (which were not that regular, as my parents and I had moved to London with the rest of the family remaining up north) to watch it. Anyway, it was a worthwhile sacrifice smile

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Laserdisc had the two halves of the show the correct way round (unlike the all-on-one-tape VHS reissue). Laserdiscs are double sided, so the first half of the show was on Side A and the second half was on Side B.

^On the laser disc, "I No" is included at the end of side 1 after "Anna Stesia" and fades out. Side 2 begins with "Lovesexy".

This means that any recording which has the segue between "I No" and "Lovesexy" intact wasn't taken from the laserdisc.

Laser disc side 1 is Lovesexy Live 2, plus "I No", and side 2 is Lovesexy Live 1 minus "I No".
