Existing studio versions? Hola! I was wondering: Does there exist studio recordings and demo versions of Purple Rain, It´s gonna be a beautiful night and Baby, I´m a star or did Prince intend for them to be recorded live all along, so that he didn´t bother to record them in the studio? If so, have they ever been leaked or heard?
I would say it would be very interesting to hear a studio version of Purple Rain to compare it from the version we all know. And I also think it´s a very tough decision to put the live versions on the album - it´s different from what most artists do. Also, is there a solo studio version of Nothing compares 2 U and does there exist a demo version of The One?

- Why would he have demos without his own vocals? I know that he used to write a lot of songs for others, including Nothing compares 2 U, but I definately thought that all of the demos of his own songs were sung by him. Isn´t it unusual for a singer to get another singer to record a demo??
BTW, has Prince ever commented on why he chose to record the Purple Rain live songs live for the album and why he did not use studio versions?

As far as songs in circulation....
The only version i know floating a roud is either a demo or an alternate version It's by The Family (St Paul & Suzanah) on vocals, not prince

The original demo recording of NC2U did feature Prince's vocals, however St. Paul's were recorded over Prince's in the process of making The Family's album.
I don't think he's commented but I think it's probably kind of obvious... it was a concert film, the songs were meant to be performed live in the movie, so it only made sense for the soundtrack to be *mostly* live recordings... People would want to hear the songs as they were performed in the movie, not studio versions of those songs, imo.

I do have a strings and piano version, ok quality but very interesting to listen to, especially the strings. ..."holding someone is truly believing"

Yes, the overdubs... although the whole things doesn't really bear repeated listening. Bit snoozesome.
