What I would like if Prince and WB could agree to do a few of his albums in the way that The Cult treated Love: http://www.amazon.com/Love-Omnibus-Cult/dp/B002GU605G

Even if you don't like their music, what they did was

-remaster the album

-add an album with mixes and b sides (also remastered)

-add an album with demos

-add a live album from that era

Now, it's not my favourite album, but imagine having Purple Rain treated that way? Personally, I think the most interesting would be 1999, ATWIAD, Parade and/or Sign of the Times, but every single album (up to and including all the new stuff) would be made interesting to amazing with this treatment.

Sadly, as things are between Prince and WB, it's likely never to be. They could make money selling the set at $50 or more... (I'm sure Alan Leeds is willing to help)

But anyway, I think having versions like these of any of his albums is more interesting than scraping together outtakes from very different times and musical directions to try and get a cohesive whole.

I would definitely love to see most of his albums given that treatment.

In regards to the outtakes (the bold part), that's why I think the best way to go would be to take a few years at a time and do large scale box sets like Neil Young is doing. Something that tells a story about the era in question.

I completely agree, that's why I mentioned Alan Leeds, the way he's doing things for James Brown. (the singles series now, and many other things before) He's worked for Prince, he'd be perfect. Unfortunately, I don't think, even if WB would allow the vault to be opened, that Prince is willing to allow his legacy to be shown as was, as opposed to how he now feels it should have been.
