Every time I watch the other people news
I see a false picture of myself, another one of U (Yeah)
They try 2 tell us what we want, what 2 believe (Mirror)
Didn't that happen in the Garden when somebody spoke to Eve?

But I'm willing, now - willing 2 do the work
Said I'm willing 2 do what I gotta do
I'm willing - willing 2 do the work
Tell me, tell me, now - say what about U?

Looky, looky now
Look around and tell me (tell me) your sun is risen
When your brothers and sisters are in the fall (Fall)
People, tell me what is left 2 give (nothin') when our work is done?
What do we own besides the right 2 crawl?

See, we're living in a system that the devil designed (Think we ain't?)
And suffering from this devil's most heinous crime
He's tried 2 keep us from, listen, (go tell it) the reason that we were born
That is 2 be the living truth in human form

But U see I'm willing - willing 2 do the work
And 2 do - do what I gotta do
People I'm willing - willing 2 do the work
Tell me now, tell me now, tell me now - what about U? (Tell 'em about it, oh!)

Willing 2 do the work {x4}
(Are U willing?) {x2}
(Are U willing now?)

This work, this work is not an easy task
But this is the work we must do 4 Revelation 2 come 2 pass
This work, this work is the kind that turns your back on the ruling class (Work it)
By putting them in they place just like the past, look out

Willing - willing 2 do the work {x6}

Nothing can stop us
Whatever's in our way
We got 2 go through it 2 get 2 it
I heard somebody say

That they're willing (oh yeah) - willing 2 do the work
Willing 2 do what I gotta do
People tell me, I'm willing - willing 2 do the work (Yeah)
Can't hear ya - what about U? (Turn around)
Willing 2 do, willing 2 do the work
Thank U

"From all over the people came 2 do The Work.
And with every phase of the deconstruction
the Everlasting Now became evermore the reality.
Everywhere the people were witnessing a change
But the alchemy occurred most in the muse".

Young And Beautiful

So young'n'beautiful
So young'n'beautiful

U're so young and beautiful
U're so full of life, everybody knows
That's why they try 2 take advantage of U
But U don't have 2 do what the others do

U're so cool, the world at your feet (Wee-ooh)
They only want your virginity
Keep your clothes on, your chastity
Until U find the one that's worth it, baby

So young and beautiful
U're so young and beautiful

U're so fine my heart's just poundin'
If I had the chance 2 lay U down
I'd probably take a rain check till next summer
Cuz I don't wanna be like all your other lovers

Wee-ooh
Young and beautiful
Young and beautiful

U're so young and beautiful
I'm hippin' U 2 the game, darlin'
So that U'll always remain
Young and beautiful
Young and beautiful
Aw yeah

Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise,
Flying upon the wings of the New Translation
See them fly, fly
The covenant will b kept this time
Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise

Rainbow children, it's time 2 rise!
Rainbow children, it's time 2 rise!

As prophesied, the Wise One and his woman were tempted by the Resistor. He,
knowing full well the Wise One's love 4 God, assimilated the woman first and
only. Quite naturally, chaos ensued and she and 5 others were banished from
the rainbow.4ever.

Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise
Flying upon the wings of the New Translation
See them fly, fly
The covenant will b kept this time
Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise

Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise
Flying upon the wings of the New Translation
See them fly, fly
The covenant will b kept this time
Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise

Who is ur real father?
The everlasting one
The one who came from nothing
And yet from this one, everything comes

The one who commands ur momma
With the simple phrase "I am"
And every time that she obeys
She gives birth 2 the Son of Man
Who is this?

Reproduction of the new breed leader/Stand up and organize!
Reproduction of the new breed leader/Stand up and organize!

The Agreement-
With every birth, we keep it so/Never changing one piece of it
In fear of what would unfold/The scales would then become unbalanced
And thus would begin the fall/The sin of one would become
The sin of one and all

Rise, rise, rise.
Rise, Rainbow Children, rise
Rise, Rainbow Children, rise

The Wise One who understood the law that was handed down from God long ago,
held fast in his belief that the Lord would bring him another one who loved him so.

Lyrically, this period (The Rainbow Children) is a confusing one for me, as i do not really understand what he is singing about, nor do i have any desire to learn. However, musically, this period is very rich imo. He had a great band, and the ONA box set, ONA piano album, Expectation and (to a lesser degree) C-Note, are great albums/e.p's with great music.

I feel the same. For me, TRC is so far out there that I can overlook most of the lyrics.

I agree with both of you in terms of the lyrical content of the TRC Era. This was the era where I learned how to 'hear' the music first and I had this zombie effect going on with the lyrics where I was saying the lyrics while listening to the music but it was not resonating with me to mean anything.

P's lyrics always come off like a child that learns how to do something new and wants the whole world to see what they know how to do and we're like, 'that's nice' to the child and then their happy.

Anyone that attended the Celebration shows most likely walked away from that with a new found understanding where P was at that time mentally and spiritually but, you have to look at him like "I understand what you're saying but, I do not agree' and he's cool with it.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I have been collecting a lot of ONA tour shows of late, and i must say that i have been a Prince fan since 1984-85, and i think that the whole ONA era (not just the tour) is one of the most musically rich to date. I went to 2 shows on the ONA tour and was amazed......as per, but it is really only since i began collecting the other live shows that i have realized how musically broad this period was. Yes, some of the lyrics were changed to old stuff etc etc, but to have such a wealth of choice in these shows is just amazing, coupled to one of the best live bands of his career, it is just amazing me really.

These recordings should be collected and treasured by all fans of Prince's music.

We may not get another period as musically diverse as this one again.

One Nite Alone

In a pale blue spotlight
A figure spins around and the voice calls out 2 U:
"Baby, do U like the sound?"
The undulating acrobat ready 2 do your bidding says:
"Come, U must let me dress U
But first, I must do a fitting"
Do U like it fast?
Do U like it slow?
I know it's better if we make it up as we go
And oh, by the way, tell me now, what's your name?
I'll let it sweeten my tongue just once
And never speak it again
Since this is our little secret
Just once and never speak it again
This is our little secret

Untarnished memory in a pale blue spotlight
Oh, let me hear U scream
If U're ready 4 one nite alone...
With me

I just listened to ONA album a few days ago, and I enjoyed it. This song is stunning. I love it. The vocals are perfection. cloud9

I wasn't following Prince at this stage, but thank goodness I could catch up with these. Don't have C-note but have listened to it. TRC and ONA definitely favourites albums. Pure musica. brilliance and it will never go out of fashion. Here to stay.

OFFS, once again, a killer thread! You're the man/woman cool here, that's for sure.

Family Name

Welcome.
U have just accessed the Akashic Records Genetic Information Division.
This program is required 4 those wishing 2 obtain
a marriage blessing from the kingdom.
When U wish 2 begin this program, place your right hand
on the scanner and tightly clench up your buttcheeks as U might feel a
slight electrical shock.
Please select the race history U desire.
U have selected "African-American".
This is your history:

First of all, the term "black and white" is a fallacy.
It simply is another way of saying "this or that".
Let's examine the term "this or that" in its ultimate form
which is: "this" means the truth or "that" which is resistant 2 it.

When a minority realizes its similarities on a higher level
not just "black", but "people of color", and higher still "indigenous", and even higher still, "from the tribe of", and yet higher:
"The Rainbow Children".
When this understanding comes, the so-called minority becomes a majority in the wink of an eye.
This action will cause a reaction or resistance.
The source of this resistance must be banished as it is in direct conflict with the initial action.
It cannot be assimilated, 4 its very nature is resistance.
In other words, one cannot serve 2 masters.
U are either "this" or "that which is not this".

End of part one.
2 continue, select the program "Family Name" and type in the
current government name U wish history on.

London, England, sometime in the early 1600's:

We have the God-given right 2 run out of our colony anyone
who does not bow down 2 our law
Hear, hear!
Hear, hear, exactly, that's what I said!
[Say I'm from the ...]
Hear hear, hear hear
Aye, yes, aye, aye!

Come on, come on, keep it moving here
Come on, now
What's your name boy?
Abu, Abu Cah
Well, it ain't now, it's Tom Lynch

Mirror, mirror what U see?
Have I still got those dark clouds over me?
Or am I really feeling what I feel?
The last days of the devil's deal
Oh mirror, what U see?

Devil, devil what U know?
U been here since 1914, but now U got 2 go
U been hidin' behind corporate eyes
U wanna war, but U can't fight
Oh devil, oh, U got 2 go, yes sir!

Bridge...
U might say, "what U mad about?"
But U still got your family name
Pleased 2 meet U, Mr. Rosenbloom
I'll be John Blackwell just the same
What's your family name?

Teacher, teacher what U say?
Did we really come over in a boat?
Did it really go down that way?
Or did I arrive before U and ruin Thanksgiving Day?
Oh teacher, oh, what U say?

Preacher, preacher is it true?
That Jesus wants me 2 give my money 2 the likes of U?
Ride around in your Lexus coupe
Drive us 2 the cleaners in a pinstripe suit
Oh preacher, that ain't truth!

The bridge, huh...
U might say, "what U mad about?
But U still got your family name
Pleased 2 meet U, Mr. Pearlman
U can call me "Clay"
Now can I play?

People, people what's your name?
Maybe we should start all over
Let everybody get in the game
Put up a one-gloved fist
Make a sound, Violet Brown

U might say "what U mad about?"
But U still got your family name
Pleased 2 meet U Mr. Goldstruck

We found this tape in the Akashic records.
This is Thomas Jefferson:

"My fellow Americans, if there is a just God, we're gonna pay 4 this!"

"Black men and White men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics
will be able 2 join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we are free at last!"

USA TODAY

Prince, The Rainbow Children (3.5 out of 4) How fitting that Prince's resurrection as a pop visionary comes by way of a religious awakening. Having exhausted sexual taboos, the recently converted Jehovah's Witness bravely plunges into the forbidden zone of faith, taking provocative discourse to a higher plane without abandoning his lust for greasy funk and bump-and-grind beats. Preaching peace and harmony, Prince slams hypocrisy, racism, sexism and spiritual bankruptcy in his strongest sacred and social statements since 1987's masterful Sign 'o' the Times. Periodic slides into piety and dogma are forgotten in the heady rush of strikingly original music, a soulful symphony of rock, funk, gospel and jazz hybrids. Flawed only by its irritating Darth-like narrator, The Rainbow Children delivers salvation from mediocrity in an often-bewildering interplay of biblical references and sensual grooves. Peerless production, experimental glee and brilliant musicianship add up to one of Prince's most challenging and fascinating works to date, whatever your take on the enigmatic valentines to God. -- Edna Gundersen

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Music Review by Marc Weingarten

The Rainbow Children

Prince's worldview has always been a muddled conflation of one-world utopianism, Christianity, and paganism. This concept album, called The Rainbow Children, finds him trying to work through that tangled belief system with an epic rock-musical/morality play in which God's chosen, the rainbow children of the title, are anointed to deliver the Good Word about ''The Everlasting Now.'' Bible-thumping sincerity doesn't suit Prince well; the album's light jazz-funk grooves sink under the weight of his sanctimony. In a career marked by interesting failures, never has Prince sounded so prosaic. C+

My favorite song on the album,

singer from Millenia

Everywhere

There's a place I want 2 go
Where the milk and honey flow
Without God it wasn't there
Now I feel it everywhere

F-f-f-feel it
Feel it, feel it, can't U feel it?

When I was lost and couldn't see my way
I used 2 follow what everybody say
Now I know that it's written in the heart
Now I'm ready, I'm ready 2 start

Without God it wasn't there
Now I feel it everywhere

We were always meant 2 be
In paradise eternally
Before the truth, I did not, I did not care
(Before the truth I did not care)
Now I feel it everywhere

Feel it, feel it everywhere
Fell it, feel it (Feel it)

Can U feel it, feel it?
This mighty good feeling everywhere, oh

Oh, we got so much work 2 do everywhere

Here On Earth

Whoa-oh-oh
Did U know?
Oh

Imagine a young woman runnin' 4 her very life
Tr-tr-tr-tryin' 2 get away from the one who loves her
This young woman
Huh, your wife

Into an alley — cold and rainy
October, just before dawn
Leaping atop a mountain of bricks
Her clothes, now covered with sick
The danger, hardly gone
She turns and curses the day she met U
And that she wishes she was never born

Say it's just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
(It's just a dream, just a dream, just a dream, just a dream)
U open up your eyes and come 2 realize
U simply imagined this, simply imagined this
(Just a dream, just a dream, just a dream, just a dream)
So U lean over and give her a kiss

Here on earth, here on earth
With U it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
I don't feel so sad

Stayin' right here, I'm stayin' right here
Here on earth

You did an incredible job on this thread...
I did not know very much at all about Mr Nelson truthfully until, the start of 1999...
My life was so involved in helping people that I just didnt even pay attention to tv, media or otherwise, still dont to this day.
What I have come to find is a very personal deep respect for his life and those for whom he has opened and awakened towards God Jehovah and the blessing of music thru life.
Thank you for representing a beautiful era in music of his he shared in doing this thread.
Take care,
Sing
