The 'Possible' Answer to 3121 !!!

Strangest thing happened last night... I was watching an old repeat of the TV show 'King Of Queens' and in one scene the two main characters Kerry and Doug were walking out their front entrance and in a close shot of their front door was 3121 on it as their home address.... any chance this could be where Prince got the idea from ?? Could he be a closet 'King of Queens' fan ??

Whenever people talk about what 3121 means, it reminds me of when Janet Jackson released Rhythm Nation 1814 but she wouldn't tell anyone what the 1814 meant. And it lasted for a little while, until everyone realized that they really don't give a shit what it means if she didn't want to tell.

Same with 3121.

Bait thread. You're obvious just trying to get a rise out of people.

The big mysterious "question" to 3121 has been answered long ago.

Move along....nothing to see here.

I walked past a house on my street that had the number 3121.

You see, Prince called his album that because he walked down my street once.

Same with 3121.

The meaning of the 1814 after Rhythm Nation hasn't ever been a secret: R is the 18th letter of the alphabet, N is the 14th. Janet mentioned this in a Rolling Stone interview shortly after the album came out.

Other than that, I agree with you, and I'll go one step further: 3121 doesn't mean a thing.

Wow... how Prince.Org has changed. I used to be on here all the time and now rarely get on much anymore and for my first post in 4 years or so I am met with very rude, disrespectful and assinine comments from a bunch of fellow orgers.... I was only making an observation of what I experienced and wondered if it had any connection. If I knew that I was going to meet so much negativity I would've not bothered to even have posted at all. If I were someone new to the org, I would be truly disappointed in this kind of response and probably not visit here anymore.

I'm assuming the moderators of old (who really were on top of ensuring a nice and genuinely healthy forum between Orgers) are gone now and the new ones just let stuff fly and don't bother to really promote a positive environment of any kind for people who want to talk about Prince with fellow fans or admirers. How sad...

Don't let it stop you from coming here. It's jut that the King of Queens address has been mentioned by a bunch of others in the past and this thread's title suggested a possible new theory and we got an old punch line on the other side. That's all. The mods can't make folks be courteous, that's left to the individual. Breaking forum rules is usually dealt with in a timely fashion if it gets reported, but snarky comments aren't against the rules unless it's seen as bait or flaming.

Hang in there.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Why do people always assume there's just one answer anyway?

Part of the reason that number was chosen is exactly because it has multiple meanings.

1: Firstly, it's a house number (for his first house in L.A.)

2: The numbers struck a chord because they add up to 7 (which has always been an important number for Prince)

3: They also reference a Bible verse that he thought was appropriate, Psalms 31:21 "Blessed be Jehovah, For he has rendered wonderful loving-kindness to me in a city under stress".

That's an interesting observation to bear in mind.

By doing so, we can prevent people posting stupid topics to come here more often.

There's plenty of stupid topics. No more are needed.

3121 was most likely a biblical reference. Now what kind was never answered though a few seemed to have relevance.

This from Wikipedia: According to another explanation the album's title refers to a verse in the Bible (Psalms 31:21). "Blessed be Jehovah (God/Yahweh), For he has rendered wonderful loving-kindness to me in a city under stress." Prince made a reference to this during a performance of the title track on the 2006 BET Awards; "Where's the real party at? Shake your tambourines! BET read Psalms; that's where it is."

On a side - if memory serves me correctly Janet's 1814 - it was initially picked as it was the year the american national anthem was written, and then I think they discovered 18=R 14=N as a coincidence.

But his house didn't actually have that address in L.A. The house was a rental from Carlos Boozer, a forward with the Utah Jazz. Prince named the house "3121", as anyone would name a house or an estate "The Rose Estate", etc. He didn't physically change the address (although God help the person who lived at 3121 on that street, if it existed).

The address of Boozer's house is 1235 Sierra Alta Way, LA, CA 90069, as noted in these documents (click the PDF and I think it's page 3 or 4) http://www.thesmokinggun....ce-edition

I don't totally buy into the "7" thing, although I do believe it was a happy coincidence for him and he went with that.

It has changed 4 the worse. The best thing 2 do is ignore them the best U can. It may B hard 2 do, but don't feed their ignorance and they will just B talking 2 themselves. True Prince fans can get over these people with obvious personal problems.

Back in 2005/6*:

Prince was reading the bible (as was the fashion at the time).

He read about Moses writing a song for the Israelites. Interested (as we know he feels a connection to Moses), he wrote down the reference - Deuteronomy 31:21

Then he read a beautiful psalm praising Jehovah. Of course, he noted this one down too - Psalms 31:21

Next came Proverbs. He got to Proverbs 31:10 (already a fav, as quoted in Muse 2 the Pharoah) and, now curious, checked on Proverbs 31:21. Yep, it's a keeper (interpreted by some as "a wife's biblical submission" - http://www.awifesbiblical...alone.html, very much in tune with the theocratic order he was particularly fond of around the turn of the century)

A few more biblical references later, P found himself pondering on the relevance of that number...3121...

...that's when he noticed 3+1+2+1 = 7 and it sealed the deal! He thought to himself, "That's what I'm going to call my next album!"

Finally he took a lease on a house in LA and named it 3121 (possibly inspired by KoQ... hmm probably not though...)

*Note: Actual events may have unfolded differently to those depicted.

Did he not also yell "It's in Psalms, ya'll!" at the BET awards as he walked off stage, giving full reference to what "3121" was?

I'm not sure if he said it after the song, but before he performed it he said "BET...Where's the real party at?.....Read Psalms, that's where it's at" Then proceeded to play 3121.
