Prince:Addicted to making music?

Over the course of years,he has always said he was "Gonna Retire",but till this day,he's still making songs and whatnot. Why is he so driven to make music even though he had(or,has) a good career?

Also,LoTUSFLOW3R?MPLSoUND was supposedly his last album, but then came 20Ten(Awesome album).Im guessing he's working up another album.

And I also read articles on him having non-stop jam-sessions for nearly 2 days straight!!

The music is in Prince and he wants to share his gift with the world. If he keeps it locked up no one but himself can enjoy what he's been given.

Yeah u tell them luv.

And to the OP where on earth did u get that Lotus was gonna be the last album and hes 'gonna retire'? When he was interviewed recently he said hes 3 albums ahead of 20Ten(no surprises there of course he is smile) and he will be rocking for another 70 years. I see that a lot of people(esp a lot of his fans)would like to see him fail and fall on his face, and yeah u all can dream on because thats never ever gonna happen, the man ain't going nowhere and is staying put-to rock another 70 years.

With artist like Prince, they are their craft, meaning that Prince himself is music. If he kept it bottled up in his head with no release, I think it would drive him insane. The line between a sane person and insanity is very thin and I think that Prince teeters on that line, even sometimes falling over to insanity at some points.

he can't 'retire'-from being Prince

music is his life

not a job

not something he COULD give up

even after were all finished with him-and nobody takes any notice

he'll still be playing and writing

its what he is

its part of who he is and maybe he buries himself in his work as a response to certain things just like the rest of us. safe refuge in something he loves, plus its his career for 30 years so..

this too shall pass

A) Where did he say he was going to retire? I don't remember ever reading anything seriously about this. In fact, the only thing I do remember is an earlier interview where he indicates he'll probably die, slumped over a recording console.

B) Where was it ever said that LF/MPLS was "supposedly" his last album? It never came from him.

Uhm yes, several times: From recording and from playing the hits live. But it was always a commercial move to draw attention.

Yeah you could say he is addicted. Or that it's his life and that he would go insane if he couldn't make music anymore.

Even if they lock him up in a mental institution, Prince would probably still make music, on his straitjacket.

It's that bad. Or that good.

Where in the world did you get "playing the hits one last time" as retirement? As a P fam you should know our boy is a geminiand will say that and come out with 4 albums in one year right after that nod

But give me facts that he said 'retirement'.

And like Whitney said, "I want to see the reciepts!"

Prince will stop recording and performing when he's dead and then 'more' music will be out ...

What should he do instead? He doesn't really know a life without making music.

The problem is: It seems as if he considers releasing music a job, don't matter if he is really inspired or not.
