Bette Midler, Dángelo leaked that he was on 'James River" which was shot down, NERD, Miles..they did stuff but Miles wanted a full blown album and prince was too weird about it.

That's a shame. I've always thought she'd do a nice version "Eternity".

I know she's a big fan. She mentioned it when she did the Actor's Studio show.

Are there more details on this?

There was a time when he didn't want to work with Me'Shell Ndegeocello. I know they worked with each other during the Emancipation era, but I remember Me'Shell saying in a recent BBC interview that when she was in the process of writing some stuff for her and Prince to do, Prince kinda brushed her off in a arrogant way, saying that the reason he wouldn't work with her is because of label reasons. I was kinda shocked when I heard this after hearing that one of the cuts they did together is on the Emancipation album (even though it's uncredited)....

Which was the track for Emancipation? I know I read about before but I forgot which song.

Isn't "Emale" the track that she appears on,uncredited?

That might have been a weird thing ala Miles Davis, he really liked her and i saw an interview when she talked of him sending her new bass guitars and encouraging noted BEFORE she was signed. She was perplexed by it, i saw her play the Lets Work bassline on a talk show calling him out to work with her, she killed that shit.

He told her that because she was on a major label, she was still on the plantation & thus "a house nigga". She wanted him 2 do the guitar solo on her song "Trust" from her 2002 Cookie cd.

Perhaps we should change the thread title to List artists Prince chose not to work with for different reasons time commitments or the collaboration would not work. (thank goodness Prince turned down MJ's Bad-that would have been one corny video.)

I just think the refused to work with is inflammatory.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Pentacle

He refused to work with Frans Bauer, a major artist in Holland, even though Frans sent Prince a video of himself fathering his seven children with Lovesexy playing on the stereo.

Me'Shell played on Emale's first, unreleased, recording: http://www.princevault.co....php/Emale

Her only released collaboration with Prince (and Chaka Khan) is Pain.

I always felt that she & Prince should do a jazz-funk album together. The "label" reason obviously was that she was on Maverick (i.e. Warner Bros.), but now that she got indie, that shouldn't be a problem biggrin

Secret Society on the dollar bill.

First we have murder what's the case which is about a mother's lawsuit Snoop was involved with at some point, afterwards, we have the illuminati from the dollar bill. The eye that looks at you, the money looks at you, ruled by money.
Mean streets is a movie by scorsese, a gangster movie with robert de niro.
the lead of the rap says none of his friends would say anything they all keep their mouth shut, and that prevent them from telling on him, that they know anything - illegal things, like in the scorsese movie.

Normal jobs from 9 to 5 is how people normally survive, but the lead says it doesn't matter about rap, he didn't pray to God, like the dollar bill says in God we trust, instead he prayed to Gotti, who is a gangster king (martin scorsese gangster level).

He admits it's far out. Fast life. He lives it. Endz means money. He does all for money. Bread means money. Late heads means old gangster kings, that he gets advices from.

When children they, him and a guy friend, fought about toys, but now they fight in the streets.
Rubbers means stacking money in piles. Could also mean condoms, cuz his friend now has a child, and the lead kidnaps the mother of the child. It sounds like he is strangling her, and also that he has dinner with her with his arm around her neck. Feeding cheese is metaphoric for money. She doesn't like the taste of money means she won't receive, but she change her mind when 50 dollar bills are on the table. But she still won't tell where the guy the lead is looking for is at, but he keeps giving her money, and there is a small wordplay : till her shit started to make sense - her body digest the money and she shits out cents which means she gives the information.

In the old day the lead and his friend had slumber parties together, but now he has a slumber party with this woman so he can get informations from her.
She starts to cry because she feel guilty telling on the guy. She about to tell. But he says she shouldn't cry, yet, he wants to find this guy and kill him (murder what's the case/ snoop) She has given into her own greed and has got so much money she is ready to tell on this guy. But he says she shouldn't be sad, cause there is nothing to be sad about yet, he hasn't found him yet/killed him yet.

There is nothing to do. His souls has been possessed by evil things in the form of material things, expensive things, lexus is an expensive car, nothing to do, he can't exorcist it out. Skits like you don't know me but the whole world owe me strip means a hold up.
He thinks it's best to serve the dollar and chase material things.

Another little wordplay, now the higher learning got the remy in me, after he has learned about the material world, he has started drinking, to drown the sorrow, but it is also a reference to the movie higher learning, where a character is named remy and does evil things. Back to the spirituous metaphoric, liqour has invaded the lead's kidneys. Sorry mom. Sorry girlfriend, boo means girlfriend. G's means grands, thousand dollars, he tells lies, if anyone tests him, then he shoots them, lead shower means shower of bullets.

And last, a reference to the bible, the devil in the bible try to convince everybody it's best to die, instead of living by God's law. The lead is giving into the devil. Wordplay on Jehovah's Witnesses, even if Jehovah finds out what's going on in bottom of the society, then the lead would still not admit to it.

I think it goes deeply against Princey Love and Spiritual Message to work with someone with this world perspective, especially Princey being a Witness himself.

I remember around 1990 or so Jon Bon Jovi said publicly that he wanted to work with Prince. he said he could add rock to Prince's sound and Prince could add some funk to his. No response from Prince - happily.

Bon Jovi went out to Paisley Park, after 1 of the 2 shows they did in Mpls, on the New Jersey Tour. Living Colour who played First Avenue, earlier in the evening, also were at Paisley. They basically just got 'the tour' of the complex and hungout. No instruments were played. I remember when Prince played the Mill City Music Festival and Woody Harrelson , Steve Gutenberg and this group of girls they were so desperately, trying to impress, just casually walked up to one of the backstage entrances and thought they wouldn't have any problems just walking backstage, and they really couldn't believe that there was no way they were gonna' 'just tell Prince how much we enjoyed the show'. They started pulling out their cells and making phone calls to people they thought could help them get backstage, the girls started to leave and Woody and Steve are pulling them back assuring them it'll be 'straightened out in just a minute'. No exaggeration, they stood at that gate for almost an hour, eventually paying a stage hand a $100 for 4 guitar picks (1 for each girl). The funniest part was, they didn't specify 'Prince" pics and the stagehand, didn't work for Prince, he worked for the staging company. Prince throws very few, if any, pics to the audience. He maybe drops a couple 2-3 during the show but after the show is over, all the pics that weren't used, that are on the stage in various places, dont get thrown into the crowd like at most shows(because it's a lot easier then collecting them all and putting them away)all those pics are collected and put in 'the drawer' and the only person who has access to that drawer is Princes' tech (who, at the time, was Takumi) Anyways this local stagehand just took some pics that were on the stage, still, from the opening artists, backup bands, that didn't say anything on them except the pic brand, and those were the 4 pics he gave them for the $100....and i'm pretty sure Woody and Steve, still didn't get laid by any of those girls, despite buying them the pics.

As a fan, for all the good things he gave us, i'm ok to forgive a lot, but a collab with bon jovi would have been my limit.
