Can we pay Prince to come to our City?

Since Prince has mentioned in recent years about wanting to cut out middlemen, I was wondering if there is a possibility of his fans actually paying Prince DIRECTLY to come perform in a city. I'm sure there are alot of holes in my thought process and things I'm not thinking of...but work with me here...I'm just brainstorming with y'all.

I think it would probably need to be a major metro area in order to make the numbers work. I imagine a scenario where a number of us say in New England (I live in Boston) commit to a certain amount of money ahead of time and only obviously pay out after a commitment from Prince. Yes I know the man is expensive but maybe this direct route might also eliminate some costs for him and his entourage. I'm sure costs of travel and hotel would have to be borne by his fans.

With respect to a venue, I would say small ones, similar to the ONA tours or aftershow type clubs. The venue can have the liquor sales. We would just have to do the research on which places are open to the idea.

So before I proceed further into a discussion which has no chance of ever happening biggrin, let's see what everybody thinks!

This answer is half sarcastic and half serious; it would depend on his mood and how much money you could put together.

But in all seriousness, if you did it correctly (booked a real venue and met all his demands, which are many) AND could come up with the cash to cover his fee (the amount of which would probably depend on wether he thought it was cool or annoying), yeah, sure! Why not? It would be no different than the promoters who pay him to do one-off gigs at festivals in Europe. Contacting his management team would be the way to start.

How about we just let Prince sing for his supper and we stop groveling for him?

OK, glad you posted this, because I've been thinking the same thing!! I want to see him perform so bad, I would be so willing to do almost anything to get him. So I have to agree that it needs to be in a metro area, but in a smaller venue. If Prince would commit to a week or 2 of shows in a small venue, that would be ideal. I think I could do without all the added expenses of the extravagant shows, just Prince and his guitar is basically enough for me!! And it wouldn't even have to be a long show either!!

So I wonder how would we go about getting this idea out to him? I was thinking I would do a fundraiser to raise more money to help pay Prince!! lol My thoughts tend to run wild when I'm sitting bored in a lecture class. lol It would be fun if he'd let the fans suggest some of the songs to perform! But it's not that important, I just want to see him! A smaller venue would be great because then if he had the time, he could have a nice afterparty with a small group of people to be there with him and be able to talk to him.

I wonder how much would Prince want per night? Doesn't matter, he's worth every penny!! smile

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I'm from Boston as well. Still haven't seen him live.

The thing is, this would be a lot more complicated than just making a FB group with X amount of people in it. Finding a venue, getting the money, finding some sort of liason etc etc....

I've heard he likes to play The Roxy (or whatever it's being called at the moment).

What about organising a fundraiser for a deserving charity instead and investigating what it would take to have Prince perform at said fundraiser?

It would have most likely have to be a pretty big deal, so you'd have your work cut out for you (if you don't have event management experience yourself, perhaps enlist the help of someone that does), but I'm sure there are some people out there that could give you some pointers (particularly those who've booked P for charity gigs in the past).

If you were able to make contact with his management you might even get some ideas for what charities are high on his radar these days.

Well he did go to Austin and play for a woman's b-day party for one million dollars a few years ago. You could hear it over the fence according to peeps around there.

"inside sources tell That Other Paper that a very, very wealthy individual has commissioned Prince to fly to Austin and regale his wife with Princey hits and over-sexified renditions of “Happy Birthday.”"

Nothing Compares 2 Prince

When pop royalty plays a birthday party at a small local club, word gets around. So last Saturday night, it was no surprise to see private security staking out the alley behind the Belmont as sheriff's deputies directed traffic out front. "They want us to tape this whole street off, but if you're on the sidewalk, we can't do anything about that," one winked to the 35-40 onlookers milling around outside the Thistle Cafe, as Grupo Fantasma serenaded VIPs inside. If the parking valets' purple shirts weren't a big enough hint, a police-escorted limo rolling through at 10pm sharp was confirmation enough that Prince was indeed in the house, or about to be; the stinging guitar lick shortly thereafter eliminated any doubt. Just then, Belmont bouncers placed a pair of 15-foot-high white screens in front of the entrance, prompting a chorus of boos from the bystanders (and a warning from our deputy friend), but the sound carried just fine. Austin Mayor Will Wynn and Gov. Rick Perry were reportedly inside – Secret Service agents were stationed on nearby roofs – but Chronicle Editor Louis Black definitely was. "It was fantastic," he reports. Prince, said to have pulled down a cool million for the evening, jammed with Grupo on and off for about a half-hour before a miniset of "Little Red Corvette," "Nothing Compares 2 U," and a funk blast from 2006's 3121 that left everyone, inside or out, awestruck. "I cried blood," said Texas Rollergirls announcer Whiskey L'Amour.

Hmmm, good idea!! I actually do alot of fundraising!! I didn't want to use it as a reason to see Prince, but hey, kill 2 birds with one stone works for me. I know he used to do alot of charity gigs, but I wonder how many he does as of late. It would be a big deal then, so it would have to be on a larger scale. That would be fine with me too. I was being a bit selfish thinking I'd like a smaller crowd so I'd be able to steal a few mins to talk to him. I'm sure though if it were a charity gig, I still may be able to talk to him. Thanks for the suggestion... this could be it!
