Prince's "Web Sheriff".... what happened to this dark chapter in Prince history... (could someone Update me ?)

After the dancing baby video was taken down, and Prince later lost the case....

what happened then, did Prince fire the Web Sheriff back then (in 2007/2008?).....?

Did Prince then hired: the Universal Music Group to fight YouTube..?

To those who can tell the full story, please treach me - and others...

In this "dark chapter" of Prince history. I just wanna know what has happened,

HOW DID IT ALL END..?

IS IT OVER..?

from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...eb_Sheriff

Web Sheriff came to international attention when the company was hired by Prince in 2007 to remove all traces of the artist from the internet.[1][35] Prince's agents released a statement which said: "Prince believes that as an artist, the music rights must remain with the artist and copyrights should be protected across the board."[36][37] Some of the Prince fans fought back, formed their own organization called "Prince Fans United" and hired an attorney.[1] In September 2007, Web Sheriff announced it would launch lawsuits against YouTube, eBay and The Pirate Bay on behalf of Prince.[35] These sites were described as in the "vanguard of online piracy".[38] YouTube complied by removing over 2,000 illegally uploaded videos from the site.[38][39] Over 300 eBay auction sites were also closed down and numerous unauthorized overseas online sites selling merchandise featuring Prince were shut down. [40]

As soon as Qtrax introduced their new file-sharing site with much publicity In January 2008, Web Sheriff notified the site on behalf of Prince, Van Morrison and The Black Crowes that regardless of whether the music companies supported the service, individual artists would have to give their approval.

I'm assuming he realized it was an unwinnable (did I just make up a word? lol ) task and gave up. Because it IS an unwinnable task, as much as he wants to proclaim the internet dead... it's probably because he knows he can't fight it. :/

I never understood how an artist like Prince (who talked about freedom, free 2 be who we are and creative freedom almost whole his career "no rules & regulations") didn't see that the internet and You Tube is just free publicity!

And suddenly, when he decided 2 tour Europe, a lot of live video's appeared on YT.....

maybe he now knows it's better 2 have some vid's on the net..

People have to understand that Prince, like a lot of celebrities, always want something to work to their benefit and when it doesn't, they turn on it. It doesn't surprise me anymore that Prince turned.

Not just unwinnable...UNREASONABLE in the extreme.

My understanding if it was that he didn't just want to stop illegal downloading of his material (fair enough - he stands to lose $$$ from that) but wanted to remove things that had no baring whatsoever on him...pictures he hadn't owned the rights to, mentions of name.

And then has he audacity to rob people blind of cash with NPGMC and Lotusshower ofshit.com

Yo know what said it all to me...he waited until he'd left the UK and his lucrative 21 nights tour before turning on the very people that had kept his tiny ass in the Dorchester penthouse sweet for 3 months...sneaky, greedy motherfucker

I was just thinking that. Or he might have realized if he really were to drag this out, he'd end up having to pay them FOREVER, because the internet isn't going ANYWHERE. He probably changed his mind.

Yep...that's what I figured too, lol

After the debacle backfired and he realized he was being ripped off, he simply didn't pay them.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Just saying...how amazing that he didn't seem to take offience until all of the money was in the bank, his look-at-me-breaking-records tour had ended,he had nothing to lose in terms of dwindling gig numbers/merchandise sales/bad feeling and he was planning to take a break to read the bible

Lucky it didn't come before or he could have been out of pocket...still he got any money back with the sash and grab Lotusflower site
