Yeah, and what do you think does that show? The Gold Experience on CD isn't a rare item either.

And do you really use Google to find things you wanna buy? Wow. confused

Let's leave it here, folks. Let's have different opinions on whether this is a rare item or not. If you feel like spending more than 5 bucks on it because you think it's rare in any way, please go ahead.

I'll continue buying spare copies of Prince albums for 1 or 2 bucks... TGE, TBA and Exodus included.

Peace! biggrin

this is one of the ones that I still do not have and would rush to the cash register with it if I spotted it someplace for $4.00. I plan on getting every single release of his whether it is well liked or not. All the ones I have so far have at least a few songs on them that at like and most I am happy with the whole album.

Don't buy The Very Best Of Prince, as he had nothing to do with that and it doesn't have any songs that aren't on The Hits/B-Sides.

If I see The Black Album for $4, I will just buy it. That probably goes for anything from the 90s that was discontinued.

eek For 4 Bucks? You can't get a Happy Meal for that price! At least you would have it and can say you infact gave it a listen to a few times.

falloff falloff falloff That is the very first album/ CD that I bought in the fall of 2008 that got this obsession going! Once I asked "I wonder what he's been up to lately? " and began checking out his more rescent stuff, and then older stuff that I only heard the singles from, I began to fall like Alice in Wonderland into all things Prince.

You do realize a real black album sold (previous to '94) for $10,000 once?

LOL yeah but you do realize that was a 87 pressing which was withdrawn in the first place, which is a rare collectors' item, one of the most bootlegged albums in the history of pop music, and maybe the most famous bootleg as well, surrounded by stories, legends and myths, with every copy being sold over the internet worldwide being watched by the hardcore collectors until this day...

...while the 94 release, especially the CD release, is nothing of all that?

It was a limited edition - wasn't it limited to just 500k copies sold?

That's the only Prince release I didn't buy until 20ten and it's lack of an actual release in the us (or any country for that matter where I could buy it as an import).

An artist coworker of my mom's (go figure) had the Black Album on LP back when it came out. He made a cassette copy for me and it was one of my most protected possessions for a long time. I actually DID make a cover for it out of black construction paper (a suggestion someone posted earlier). The sound was great and I was still "cassette" back then anyway.

Jump to 1994 when it was finally released on CD - what a lackluster release! Sure, the music was the same but it was . . . just . . . "there". Still, it was very nice to have it on CD finally, even if the volume levels are criminally low.

Well, maybe an original Goldnigga is still rare, but honestly, i remember a time where some things were really hard to find and now most of these items show up on Ebay or some other sites once in a while. I'm a comics collector and i remember looking for very rare trade-paperbacks and there's not one that it didn't find after a few days roaming online cool

I think 500k were pressed, but they were withdrawn after a certain time period on the shelves, so far fewer were actually sold and are in existence.

I knew what you meant. I was just referencing the whole "internet is dead" thing. wink As Prince items go, The Black(1994) album CD isn't rare enough that counterfeiters are making fakes yet, like Goldnigga, Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, Mazarati, The Family and the Madhouse discs.

No matter how much research I did, I would never feel comfortable buying these online. The chance of getting a fake is MUCH too high. Who knew back then that they'd be so valuable now?!

I remember the time, in the 90's, where u'd find these in wrecka stows who had no idea how rare they were, 4 the price of an average CD. Now u find ur avzeage Jill Jones or Madhouse or whatever online 4 a few dozens dollars and i just sold mine for an average 30/50 bucks on ebay while i'm sure that genuine as they are they'd be worth 100 bucks each at least if these damn counterfeits weren't around!!!

I can totally understand that. And sellers actually make the prices on some of the fakes quite high so as to make them appear valuable and seem like the real McCoy.

This is an invaluable resource for those with questions about fakes: http://www.moquake.com/fo...3&t=31

I know. I bought a bunch of Jill Jones CDs from Best Buy back in the day with longboxes. They were about $3 a piece. Unfortunately, I traded them off way too early for some now worthless bootlegs (but they were awesome at the time). I also held copies of both Madhouse CDs in my mitts at used record shops where they were priced at about $8. Of course I passed on them. I thought "Why do I need extra copies of these? I already have them." doh! duh

On the other hand it's funny how record stores (at least here in France) never had a CLUE what what they were selling was worth. In France a CD is worth between 2 and 12€, period. U could sell a genuine One Nite Alone... to them and they'd buy it for 2€ and sell it back 10€ falloff
