It's been highly suggested that Michael Jackson was exhausted and overworked from trying to make a tour better than Prince's Purple Rain tour.

Well it paid off because the Bad Tour owned the Purple Rain Tour.

And....Checkmate. lol Michael shouldn't even have been mentioned. disbelief

In my opinion, Prince's best concerts were performed during the SOTT era.

I think if people voted which tour was more memorable, exciting, the BAD tour is just a memory, vague at best, I love the album..but the tour was just another tour...purple rain tour has a certain mystique, a certain allure...just more deeply seeded in peoples consciousness. It had a movie attached to it...a better album.. I'm not talking about $ grossing tours, or how many people attended. Im talking about in retrospect, what tour owned which...PR outshines the BAD tour...regardless of $, attendance or production value.

As much as I love Prince, the Bad Tour owns every actual tour Prince has ever done. From an entertainment standpoint, Prince has never done anything like that. And the Bad Tour is simply why Prince had never reached the level of Michael. The Bad Tour is one of the most well known/celebrated tours around the world, you can't say that for Prince. Prince is a great musician and songwriter, singer but he doesn't have the God-like entertainer factor in him.

smoothcriminal12 you are pretty much correct in what you say, only thing that Prince has going for him is the fact that he's a better guitar player than MJ. Then again Prince is still bad ass and a legend, but no where near Michael in stature (pardon the pun lol )

Absolutely. See, that's why MJ should have been totally left out of this discussion. disbelief There's no comparison, at all.

Oh please, Michael Jackson was a cheesy music making creep. He didn't have much vocal range, he had cheesy songs, and really became weird/creepy from 95 to his death increasingly so. I like Michael Jackson, but I don't think he's that great (prepares to be flamed but I don't care). The whole Bad Tour was him moaning high pitched moving his neck back and forward like a snake in some cheesy 80's black leather outfits with mediocre songs. The Purple Rain Tour was beautiful, one of the most epic tours ever done. There is no comparison about that (would put insult but would be snipped by luv4u)! I mean I'm no glad he died or anything and he was good, but not grea. He is about as glorified in the media as Justin Bieber, being called the "King of Pop" and "Great Dancer" every second. There's so many better pop artists and dancers than Michael Jackson.

Let me guess, your one of the Prince fams who think that Prince is bigger than The Beatles/MJ/Elvis combined huh? Sure seems like that..

Looks like someone is bitter about Prince not achieving the level he thinks he should be on. Prince is not the only music in life, and trying to undermine the legacy of someone great isn't going to make Prince seem better. All it does is make Prince fans look like bitter assholes. Your such a great Prince fan, just scare off more people with your of your Insane rants.

No I'm not going to "flame" you, because I fucking love Prince too, but have some logical and real perspective in life would you?

You mean my moronic/stupid posts since you joined this website in March of 2010? You should have been here years ago to see what was saying then. biggrin

Seriously, I am not sure why you are going after me. I am not sure I've even talked to you before. I was talking to Amerigo. Thanks for being so kind though. You seem nice.

As far as MJ goes...I am a huge fan of both and I think it is debatable who is/was a better live performer. Critics and fans alike both herald Prince and MJ as two of the best showman ever. Take your pick. That being said, Prince Concerts are more "live" than MJ's were. Prince's shows are not as rehearsed and are more spontaneous-the energy is different. Plus, Prince's live show is not the same as it has been since 1988. The fact is that, they are both great and you cannot definitively say one is head and shoulders above the other in this regard. MJ cannot work an audience like Prince. Prince's shows are more audience involving than MJ. MJ's shows are/were like going to a movie. It's a performance that could happen the same no matter the audience. Because of the nature of his concerts, Prince always takes the crowd into account and his concerts change based on the crowd. When did MJ last let audience members (who weren't planted groupies) up onstage to dance? Prince has an actual band that he leads, guides, and plays with. MJ just has hired musicians put together for a tour. Sheryl Crow used to play with him and was quoted as saying that MJ didn't know her name. I assure you, Prince knows his band.

Another thing to consider is this: How long was the longest show on the BAD tour? Did MJ cross the 3 hour mark? Did MJ do legendary aftershows during the BAD tour? Did he ever do them? To me, the fact that Prince would play for another 3+ hours after a show is what makes his tours cooler/badder than MJ's tours...even BAD.

All in all, comparing the BAD tour to any of Prince's tours is like comparing apples and oranges. MJ's BAD tour was closer to broadway spectacle than it was live music. Prince's tours have been more diverse. Take your pick. I also prefer Prince because of the women his tours had on it.

Lastly, before this goes too further into Prince vs MJ perhaps we should move it to another forum before this thing gets locked?

I do remember people buying the Batman album because of the movie and the fact that Batdance was hugely played a lot on the radio and mtv... but being disappointed in the album.

I remember some of my non prince friends (kind of like frat guy types) asking me if the Batman album was as good as Black album. They loved the Black Album. I said it was different. They listened to Batman and didn't ask me for a copy.

I wish Prince had put out the Black Album officially back in 1988!
