There are no average tracks on Graffiti Bridge except for Shake.

And let's not forget tracks like Slow Love, The Ladder, Free - all average.

But anyway, I would Die 4 U and Baby I'm Star are most definitely top notch

OMG I LOVE FREE!

So many people HATE this song! WHY?!!

Honestly do you not have a life - the original poster. People like you are why I usually give this site a wide berth.

Let me remind you about from where the songs came, Purple Rain.

Prince won an oscar for best soundtrack.

Perleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

If you are going to pose questions then at least ask something that will promote interesting responses.

Again I have not read ANY of the other comments as there is no point. The question is stupid and pointless.

I think the question was fair, but answered predictably - until your response.

You live on here don't you squirrel.

You eat nuts waiting to pounce.

You bore me. Actually why am I bothering to respond.

I couldn't care less for anything you have ever said on here.

Reply if you want, oh I know you will, you love to have the last word.

Couldn't really care less whether you do or not.

I won't return to this thread so you will be wasting your time if you are posting to me cos I will never read it.

You are another one who needs to get a life and another one like that fanatic that turned Prince into a recluse.

Go for a walk or something - it's lovely outside. Why do you sit looking at what's happening on org all day long 24/7/365

I feel sorry for you. Really I do.

Yes! Excellent. I can literally feel your passion. Your anger! It is so real, so visceral, so...sweet. I love it. You should post more. Many, many times a day in fact. I love it.

Well, I always felt that those exact two songs were a little too uninterested compared to the rest of the album.

Had they been in the same league as the rest, this would have been my no 1 favorite album, but as it is, I often skip the two.

I agree with BobGeorge, not in his attacks on Squirrelgrease:

but - the original poster's question is sooo silly. sad

those songs are essential Prince songs as most of Prince music 1980 to 1988... music

But as usual it seems to be more cool to be critical (negative?) here on the Org, sad

And.. again to critisize the Purple Rain album - calling those songs average, is just plain dumb.

imo.

Oh - by the way: Thank you for enlightening us on the question of objective truth in musical taste.

And for indirectly reminding me once again of the term Netiquette.

Bingo. Can you imagine if he would have dropped Take Me With U, IWD4U and BIAS and replaced them with 17 Days, Erotic City and She's Always in My Hair? Instead of being his second best album (imo) it might be the best album EVER.

Just my opinion, but yes. I believe 1999 is the better album.

When Doves Cry is his best song.

To me, 1999 has more better songs than PR.

1999

Automatic

DMSR

LRC

Lady Cab Driver

are superior songs to anything on PR except WDC, PR and TBO.

Better than LGC. Better than CB. Better than DN. Much better than TMWU, IWD4U and BIAS.

Plus, throw in Let's Pretend We're Married and Free on 1999. I'm not huge on Delirious, though it is a classic.

LPWM to me is nastier in all ways to Darling Nicky.

BUT

If you add 17 Days, She's Always in My Hair and Erotic City and drop the previously mentioned songs from PR, PR suddenly becomes the better album FOREVER.

It sure is

Consider this: no-one can take 'Temptation' seriously, yet who doesn't love that song? The silly lyrics and delivery, the great guitar, the ...transcendental conversation with god at the end?

Yet 'The Ladder', which takes itself so seriously, just makes me laugh. Why do you love it?

At least I can understand why I really like Jughead...

I love everything about it, especially with all the girls chiming in on the second half of the song. The very few (3?) performances of it on the Parade tour were good too. "Now this King, he had a subject named Electra"...wonder if that's where he got the Electra in Carmen Electra?

The live version of The Ladder with him sitting at the piano at the end of the Lovesexy documentary is GREAT. It's very serious, and especially in context of being at the end of the documentary about Prince.

It's your call.

Both are between the 2 values, not classic but better than average so we say Good or Great (4 stars), whereas to me Average means 3 stars and Classic is 5 stars.

The whole PR album is brilliant, and these two songs Darling Nikki, Take me with u,and Computer Blue are 4 star songs whereas all the others are 5 star.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Both songs are classics for sure though I've personally never been a huge fan of "I Would Die 4 U". (Luv luv luv "Baby I'm a Star".) However, personal preferences aside I can still recognize "I Would Die 4 U" as a classic tune.
