yeah I know a few who do from afar with appreciation for him at different points of his career, and some have seen him in concert and one has met him.

Two of my old best friends were into Purple Rain/Under The Cherry Moon, one of them knew all the words to Purple Rain as she was bought up on the movie and this is when i just started out being a fan of Prince so I was in awe eek .. Now, we don't even talk anymore (she's not into Prince these days) and I'm the one who knows all the words lol

These days, my current best friend for eight years is only now getting into Prince. It's got to the point where she even has photos on her phone lol I'm still getting her into more of his music though, it's a steady process. razz

Not to any great extent. In fact, I know some -of homophobic tendencies- are a little bemused at my admiration for his music.

My friends for the most part have been Prince fans since the beginning. I'm late to the party. I don't think they're as into his latest output as I am though. I'm going to give them a copy of Lotusflow3r.

None of them do, at best they would tolerate him...at worst, the ignorant gay slur comes out which I'm sure most of us have experienced at some time.

Thankfully I have made friends through sites such as this and fan gatherings, so I have an outing for Prince talk. When I discovered Prince, I did so at the same time as my best friend at school, so from the age of 13 to 18 I had someone else to share the wonder with.

After that and before the internet, it was a lonely furrow that I ploughed. Leaving the Glasgow Garage club aftershow during the Gold era was a singularly frustrating and depressing experience..

Surrounded by Prince fans, and I knew none of them as they all went their seperate ways into the night... I had no-one to share my tinnitus with, let alone discuss arguably the biggest influence in my life (after my parents).

However, I've now come 'Into The Light'...and I have been welcomed into the warm bosom that is the online Prince community. smile

(note to self...really have to stop posting days after the last entry..late to the party as ever!!)

Anybody who knows me knows prince, it's been 6 years of being a fan now and if anybody were asked the first thing that comes to their minds about me it would be mr rogers nelson himself, which they all respect.....As for them liking him it's a different story, out of 2 different occassions, i've had 3 friends come to see him and they admit his showmanship and performances are the biggest and best they'll probably ever see and with noteable hits being favoured by different people, gett off, little red corvette etc none of them have become fans which although surprises me in some instances, i'm glad that it's still just me and he's now one of the major things that makes me me biggrin, it's always a pleasure to meet other fans at concerts but like I said in my close nit group of friends..... I AM the funkiest cool

Not as much as I like his music. They all know I'm the biggest Prince fan. I have one friend I haven't seen in almost 20 years and found me on Facebook. First question she asked, "R u still a Prince fan?" Hehe. I'm surprised she even remembered that! I was quite flattered! biggrin

well i still believe to a degree that if people actually LISTEN to some of his music and see just how talented he is then they cant fail to at least recognise his talent if not becoming big fans themselves....all my family love his music and a number of my friends admire him but not to the degree i do....some have seen him in concert and all loved it....i think that some people are not musicially intelligent enough to appeciate him.....some people just like whats in the top ten ...maybe liking the latest act that is hot then move on....music is a huge part of my life and prince is my favourite artist of all time.....some people just dont feel music they way most of us feel when we listen to it.....thats my view anyway...

something else i wanted to add to this.....i mean...if someone dismisses prince with the usual ' gay ' comment.....they are ignorant....at least musicially ignorant...if someone says that to me....it tells me they know f**k all about music.....i mean if someone tells me they like whoever....i will normally tell them what i like and dislike about them but in a knowledgable way....if i dont know their music then i say nothing......if you look at the musical greats of the last 50 years...

.

beatles.....love them...

.

dylan.....never really got into him but i can ADMIRE him for his work and importance to recent music history...

.

bowie....brilliant artist on a par with prince for his work

.

rolling stones....again never been a big fan ...like some of their songs but i KNOW how important they are ...

.

led zeppelin.......great band and love their quirky stuff they did....another important band in rock history...

.

elvis......breakthrough rock n roll artist and immensly important to changing music in the 50s.....i personally dont think he is as talented as the rest of this list (not a songwriter which is important i feel )...but i recognise how important he was and he led to lennon beginning the beatles...

.

there are lots of other examples and you could go on for ages but my main point is i havent got a problem with people not being a fan of prince.....but i do have a problem with people dissmissing him as not worthy or 'gay' .....anyone of says that knows F**K all about music or life in general to be honest...thats all i have to say... wink

i always ask people who say they dont like Prince to give me a music genre they like! i then look through my 30 or so cds and pick out a song, they are amazed at what they hear!!! Prince can write any style of music and is the master, i am worried though that he will distance himself from a new generation by banning his music and videos, can you imagine the impact he would have if he saturated the media with all his stuff? he shouldent be ashamed of the things he wrote, he wouldent be the man he was today. Prince! people need to see and hear you again.

I also love the new stuff and colonized mind is a classic!!!

Mostly everyone knows his old stuff...well Purple Rain songs, Kiss, and I Wanna Be Your Lover since those are played frequently on the radio. So there alot of people that like those songs, but I don't know anyone else that is a Prince fan like me. Mostly everyone around these parts will listen to anything on the radio, so if he got more play with new stuff, they would like it. I have a few family members that like his old stuff too. Music tastes change so much with casual fans. It's rare to find a diehard Prince fan (or even MJ fan) that has kept up with all the latest music since say 1995-present. It's sad really!

My sister does. Most my friends that were into him back in the day, said seem to not to listen to him, that is keep up with his releases of the last few years, and tend to be into whats on hip hop radio.
