I don't see how this survey will result in the top 20. Let's say if you have 100 people take the survey and 48 vote only for When Doves Cry, 2 vote only for Let's Go Crazy, and the other 50 vote for Everybody Loves Me plus many other songs...does Everybody Loves Me come out ahead of When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy???

If that's the way people vote, then so be it. But don't forget that the 50 who vote for Everybody Loves Me plus the "many other songs", well then the "many other songs" may well include When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy, no?

Think of a vote as being 'your approval' for canditate. Which ever songs have the most approvals will be the winners.

well I voted but my FAVORITE song is not on there so i just picked a couple other favs. I have one CLEAR cut favorite over any other song he has ever done. It just so happens to be a cover though, One of Us. I voted for Dolphin, Peach and Gold. One of Us is HANDS DOWN my favorite though!!

On a more serious note, thanks to everyone who has voted so far. 231 people have taken the survey now. We're trying to get as many P-fans as possible to vote so if you know any others who may not be as involved in the online community as many of us, please forward them the link - much appreciated!! (but please, newbies discouraged - only those who would know at least half of his released output)

So far it's a very close race - at least 4 songs are in with a chance to take the top spot, and the top 20 is pretty close all round.

Yeah, but technically it has been released as both... "The Cross" on Sign O The Times, and "The Christ" on Rave 2000, and he's pretty much performed it as "The Christ" since 1997...

I know. but The cross for me is somehow a far better song than the Christ. I probably like the us eof the symbol more than the use of the name. (Not religius myself). But is is of course another discussion and i am looking forward to your results !

I have voted tried to keep in mind the heading Greatest P song of all time but in the end it was my heart that ruled in that I voted for songs I would be sad never to hear again !!! so there were lots

It would be cool it Prince took a look at the final list and saw how many votes each song really got. I think he sometimes forgets what many people really loved about the 80's music - which is not only the fact that it was in the past.

And I hope that not an obvious choice wins (Purple Rain, Computer Blue, Little Red Corvette, She's Always In My Hair, Mountains, Sign O' The Times, ...) - I'd be ready for something new!
